Nami - Learning to Fight to Win

Kids back in school + major car repairs to do = not much time for posting lately :p  But even more than that, I find it really hard to articulate my thoughts about Nami.  Her character growth is more complicated than the rest of the crew.

Gorgeous Nami icon! Where's it from?

I really enjoy these essays -- you always make me think about the character in a light I haven't seen before. (Very interesting, that take on the scene in the Jaya bar, and I like the idea that it's for her benefit.)

Nami, more than any other Strawhat, keeps her real feelings well hidden.

Very true -- the only other one who comes close is Robin. All of the crew members are conditioned by their traumatic pasts and driven by them, but arguably Nami and Robin are the only ones who endured what amounts to years of brutal child abuse and hostage syndrome combined. (OK, Luffy was pretty much abused by his grandfather, too, but... that's different, somehow. Luffy had the resources to survive, and he had Ace, and probably he also perceives on a deeper level that his grandfather means him well.) It's not surprising that they have the hardest time trusting anyone, even their own nakama.

Can't wait to see your take on Usopp... I have such a soft spot for him.

The icon is from a piece of Nami fanart I found a while back, I don't remember where from though =/ (it was in my "does not need attribution" folder, so I don't keep track of source for those) - I love your icon as well =)

I'm glad you're enjoying them, I really enjoy writing them, even if this one took a lot of thought, or more because it took a lot of thought^^ I always find new aspects and things to think about when I do these.

Usopp's should be interesting (I hope). I already have the basic idea - the working title is "Usopp - Turning Childish Lies into Manly Truth"; hopefully, it should be up in the next day or so.
