[Max is sitting on his bed, legs drawn up, hugging them. He tossed the Dreamberry aside and now it's recording.

[No, he's NOT crying. Shadowhunters don't cry. Especially not about a brother who left, a brother who never even talked to him. He's not crying over his skinned knees or his cracked glasses - both a consequence of the same fall out side.

[Jessamine is on her way out for a short walk when Max's broadcast comes through. She sighs and immediately sets down her things. Even though Max may have been a bit irritating, she still can't just ignore him.]

Max...?

[mangandsleep]

Yes? [Sniffles, but he tries to swipe quickly at his face, scrubbing behind the broken glasses]

[halfthelady]

[Tea does not work making little kids feel better. Ohgod Jessamine isn't good at comforting people never mind children but she puts on a smile anyway..]

Did you perhaps want some cake? I bought some the other day and I'm sure there's some left after Magnus and your sister had some.

What kind of cake?

[This makes all the difference. And whether or not Isabelle had any part in its making]

There's chocolate, vanilla and some red velvet - I bought it from that lovely little tea shop in Espoir.

[mangandsleep]

I like chocolate.

[halfthelady]

Shall I meet you in the kitchen then? I'll get you a piece.

[mangandsleep]

OK!

I'm coming.

[halfthelady]

[Jessamine is down in the kitchen fetching the chocolate cake from the fridge. She only has the one piece out for Max, but there is more still in the fridge.]

[His knees still look banged up, as are his glasses, but the promise of chocolate cake is just too good to pass up. Max walked into the kitchen looking a little better]

[When she turns around to see Max there, she notices that he does look a little better but she clicks her tongue anyway. Motherly mode activated.]

You poor thing. Were you outside on the ice?

I slipped. [Tentatively comes closer]

[halfthelady]

Well, once the ice clears up we'll have to get you glasses unless you have a spare. [She pauses and notices him inching closer.]

I don't bite you know.

[Max nodded, stopping right in front of her. But he blinked through his broken glasses, looking up at her before blurting out] Why are you being so nice?

[Annnnd Jessamine's expression falls flat.]
