I was up until 4am installing The Sims 2 + all EPs and SPs on my new notebook (a process which did not go smoothly, due to Windows interpreting the installation as idle time, downloading a security update in the background, and REBOOTING in the middle of installing Pets), only to discover that the game looks like cr*p. Have you gone on the Sims forums yet to poll other Windows users about their machines? (Yeah, I know, at 5 am...)

I hope it turns out to be something adjustable/fixable! What kind of machine did you get?

I haven't asked directly (because I'm one of those people), but I've been reading the technical forums (fora?) looking for a similar configuration and/or problem. I got a Thinkpad R61 with an nVIDIA4 graphics card. All of the specs I thought to verify before buying the machine -- including the graphics card -- check out. I know it's going to be the display. Argh! It's not that I can't buy an external monitor, but doing so really undermines the portability of the game, which is why I didn't buy a desktop to begin with.

p.s. I named the machine "Phoenix" in honor of my hobby-which-almost-was.
