I'm glad your new purchases have turned out so well. It sounds like the improvements, particularly getting rid of that cable glitch, are going to make viewing a lot more fun. No more mysterious silences just at the moment of revelation!

Oh no! I didn't know (or forgot?) that your camera was broken. I don't know if yours is a problem that can be fixed easily, but my experience (with my mom's camera) is that the cost of digital cameras has come down so much that it's about the same cost to just buy a new one.
YAY for conspicuous consumption! Your setup sounds envy-inducing. I'd really like to switch to TiVo at some point from my DirecTV DVR, but probably not until after debt payoff and Japan.
Note that DirecTV is going to offer TiVo-based DVRs (again) later this year. So you'll be able to stick with DirecTV *and* have TiVo if you want. It remains to be seen just what features will be included though - might find out this week at CES. (I run tivolovers)
Ooh, new TV! Sounds like you have a nice shiny setup. We just got a new upstairs TV, but it's a little sad because we have an old satellite receiver that doesn't get HD hooked up to it, so now local broadcast channels look better than the satellite. Oh well. Also, I'm impressed by your productivity in tape-sorting. That's not an activity I'm looking forward to.
I am also curious if you placed your Christmas manga order. I may or may not have a couple things to recommend to you (which, in my defense, I got AFTER Christmas, so there was no way to make your deadline), but I'll just keep my mouth shut if you've already placed the order.
I have not yet placed the mega manga order. (I have a list of 20 books + 2 G-Defends.) You should recommend!
Tape decluttering was MUCH more time-consuming than manga decluttering. Particularly when I ran into things like episodes of West Wing I don't have on DVD. I would watch 6 hours of tape on the new TV (and then throw out the tape).

I'm so glad I can save you the pain of not having ordered どうしても触れたくない, which I made the mistake of not ordering in December, only to read a really good review of it from insaneneko. It's so sweet and so adorable; kind of angsty but in a good way. I can't even get angry at the main character when he's a dumbass, because he's just so darn adorable--I am SO into the awkward, silent guys right now--(plus he has good reason for being afraid of being in a serious relationship, given that his last boyfriend was a total ass to him). (Bonus! Ranked #3 in このBLがやばい.)
I don't know if spacealien_vamp recced コイイケ to you or not, but it's really cute (especially the last couple, who have the most screen time). Anyway, if you like that one, the sequel (君にまた恋がくる) just came out; it's not, I think, quite as good, but still good.
隅田川心中 is a short story collection; the first two I was meh about (especially the first one, which does not have a happy ending), but the second two are way adorable. I wish Nadeshiko Galaxy (my favorite) had been longer, but still, way cute. The last
