Twilight was a bad movie

...and other thoughts.

I think Twilight might have benefited from a better writer, a different director, some new casting, and less extreme Edward hair. Mostly the characters seemed deprived of both personality and backstory, and the big romance was lacking chemistry. Spark. Romance. He glitters like jewelry for #*$%'s sake. How bad a writer or ( Read more... )

I haven't heard of that brand before, but I just love shopping for cookware. Last summer, I talked my mom into buying a set of Kitchen Craft cookware. (I was supposed to take half the set, but then I wound up moving away.) Their electric skillet makes the most amazing fried potatoes with zero oil. (Sadly, I was never able to get the regular skillet to make regular fried potatoes without sticking.)

Currently I'm debating with myself over getting a Chinese bamboo steamer.

See...when you mentioned what befell your frying pan during training, I thought that could just have easily have been me. I have no idea how to treat cookware properly, which is why I've always owned cheap (apparently meltable) pans. Even my Allclad saucepans have slightly discolored in my lack of care (oxidation?) and I've scored the interior with...y'know, I don't know what scraped the interior. Possibly scraping with forks. If I used a brillo on them, I have only myself to blame.

One of the reasons I don't get very excited over cookware is that there are so many exotic one-use pieces I can't imagine storing between use. I'm more of a big pan, little pan, skillet cook.

the lag between obsessions makes for many money-better-spent thoughtsThis is one of the reasons I still haven't joined the netflix crowd. Granted, there is much I could start with, but I always look long term when spending money like this. What happens after I watch all the stuff I am excited over? And of course, I have no time anyway and more than enough backlog of my own - I see wasted monthly fees after the initial OOO AAHH SHINY. Also, your comment about the pan outshining Twilight makes me giggle with Glee ( ... )

I'm having a really bad time with Netflix right now. Some anime series (notably Detective Conan) just fell out of my regular queue into the saved queue, which means the disks have gone missing or been purged from their collection...and they'll never be replaced. I haven't been able to get GTO or Marmalade Boy from them for that reason. My top three disks -- Slumdog and the second set of Ouran DVDs -- are all marked with "long wait." But then there's Avatar and Chuck and, yes, even Twilight (which I wanted to watch so I could watch that Bollywood thing w_10_00 linked). Also, you say "Newsies," and I can just add it to my queue.

I seriously love the middle of the first season of Chuck, which is why I won't let those disks go. The Halloween episode! Mother's Day! (Chuck has more chemistry -- human, not romantic -- with his sister than any two characters in Twilight. So *spoilery comments about last week's ep removed*. Heartbreak for me!)

...could it be, that you have *gasp* never seen Newsies? Please tell me I am misreading your comment!

Also, you HAVE seen Strictly Ballroom, haven't you?

If you are ever desperate for Marmalade Boy, I would be happy to share my dvds with you. I haven't even undone the skrinkwrap on them, ha ha! (I've seen the show, though.. just haven't gotten around to rewatching via dvd.) I would be more than happy to give them a use until I am ready. ;)

So.. you must be current on Chuck, then, to have commented on last weeks episode? My friend from home is the only other person I know who watches Chuck and I am desperate to be able to look at someone before tomorrow and GLEEFULLY say: "OMG SCOTT BACULA IS GOING TO BE PERFECT!"

Also, I seriously disliked the actress who plays Chuck's sister in a previous series (not that I was all that hot on the show itself anyway), but she has warmed a great deal to me in this one. But oh, the ways I love Chuck, I could talk all day.

Yay for having a budget category to save for Shiny stuff! Right now, sadly, all my digital spare change goes to paying off debt, making sure there's enough money set aside for the stuff that use to go on the credit cards (home repairs, I'm looking at you), and saving up for Japan... but I hope to have Shiny categories eventually!

I love my Calphalon pots, but they aren't pretty and shiny (more like heavy and black). They are pretty close to indestructable, though.

Calphalon was the other recommendation of my friend Cory, who doesn't melt pots by ignoring them to death. But their anodized aluminum set wasn't shiny. Also, the specific set he pointed me to didn't include a covered skillet.

The OMG giggly neat thing about this is that my digital spare change is a little like collecting pennies. It's the <$30 left after all the regular categories + savings have been planned, plus the odd amounts I regain when one of the variable bills comes in under budget. Which means it should take almost a year. It also means that Shiny is the category I'll have to dip into when the variable bills go over budget. (I like to keep them zeroed out like the fixed bills.)

I am astonished (it is utterly beyond my comprehension, you see) that you do not consider "saving up for Japan" a "shiny" category.

My comment might be nothing without context though, so: If I were to ever engage in such budgetary gadgetry, "saving up for Japan" would be under the "Pipe Dream" line item. :P

Live the dream for me, Sara, live it. XD

LOL! It's only because I consider saving up for Japan a "necessary expense." ^_~ As in, I'm going to end up going whether I save up enough or not, so it's pretty much in the same category as car repairs and furnaces from that perspective.

"saving up for Japan" would be under the "Pipe Dream" line item. :P

Sadness! We need to get you a better job. :-(

I think Twilight might have benefited from a better writer

Yeah, I think the series could have actually been good if Stephenie Meyer had given the idea to someone else (someone who could actually write) and let them...oh, you mean the script writer. Actually, the movie improved on the book SO much you just don't even know. (See here for an idea.) The books do contain more backstory (well...maybe not so much in the first one), but not, sadly, personality. As for casting, mereflair and I were watching it together last week, and after one badly delivered line, I said, "Ugh, could that line have been any more stiff?" and she said, "Come on, it's Bella and Edward, that was PERFECT." Which is sad because it's true. They are total cardboard cutouts. Never have the main characters of a romance fallen in love with so little chemistry ( ... )

I wasn't going to bag on the novels because I haven't read them, but the film grows out of the novel franchise, so...yeah. Ms Meyer would have done the world of romance a favor by passing her idea onto someone who could create characters ( ... )

I flog myself for stupid: I also liked the actor who played Jacob Black. Knowing what is to come, I suppose it's a good thing I think he has more chemistry with Bella than awesome Edward does.

.... but isn't there tons of talk about them not wanting him back for the sequel(s)? Not the right image or some such?
