Rain, rain, llamas and rain

This past weekend, spacealien_vamp and I visited Mendocino. I've never been before, and I have to admit that I would never have proposed the location because, on the face of it, there's "nothing" to do there. There are wineries and galleries and vegetarian restaurants (and extreeeeeme vegetarian restaurants) and dogs and a profound love of California flora, but ( Read more... )

I'm used to estimating arrival times based on an assumed 60 miles = 1 hour.

Having driven thru the area(s) you're describing... this made me laugh and laugh. Silly woman. XD I also loved that the forest made your car think it was dark. Priceless!

Also:
mangaroo+ ocean surf = OTP.

TWINS! ♥

How come you don't carry a camera? (Especially on a trip?!) It's too bad it rained, but it sounds like you had a nice time away anyhow.

I really had a lovely time. I would love to spend a couple of weeks there, eating mostly veggie and taking long walks by the coast. The rain was wet, but it also gave us gorgeous surf and privacy everywhere we went, so I don't regret it. Except briefly on the drive home when we drove through a particularly bad patch that completely obscured all visibility. As is typical with Bay Area weather, five minutes later we were under blue skies. The motto being, "If you don't die, everything will be fine. So avoid dying, 'kay?"

I don't carry a camera because I'm not a particularly gifted photographer. And I wouldn't scrapbook the output (digitally or physically). And it's another thing to carry. And because I took 192 pictures of the Washington Monument when I was 15 years old.

Isn't that standard operating procedure for a teenaged tourist?? :P

I don't tend to do much with my pictures either but I like to take them because it gives me a memory. Not to sound all Ritsuka or anything, but I have a very, very bad memory and I'm fond of reminiscing. I'm also fond of sharing with others. :) But I totally get the whole "one more thing to carry around" business, haaaa.

Sorry for not updating yet. I've finally selected which pictures I want to upload. I just have to get around to actually doing it.

I will continue to watch for your update. Meanwhile, I was completely unaware that there's a raw food restaurant scarcely two blocks from my office: Cafe Gratitude. There are other locations in and around SF (who knew? a raw food chain). Next time you're on my side of the bay, let's give it a try: we recommend that those w/ severe nut allergies not dine with us.

Too bad it was rainy, but it sounds like a fun trip. I'd love to take a windy hilly drive like that (Michigan is so...flat), and the Ravens looks awesome. (Do the attack kitties fight with the dogs, or is it separate enough from the restaurant that it's not an issue?)

You can take that exact windy hilly drive if you come for a visit. I would love an excuse to go back. (And I kinda like seeing you, too.) You and s_vamp can pick a dozen veggie restaurants to try...though the area is so new agey that I would expect even the omnivore establishments have a wide choice of delicious veg-friendly items on the menu. Bring a dog.

This particular attack kitty avoided the dogs by hopping up on a printer behind the concierge desk when doggies were in the lobby. (I am trying very hard not to resent the doggie for interrupting my petting session. Such a pretty kitty.)

In a perfect world, I would visit CA for the week before YaoiCon, giving me plenty of time to visit with you & s_vamp and my brother. I am not sure if I'll be able to work it out financially, but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. I guess it depends on how much money I can save up before I start half time in the summer. I am never going to have the money to move into my own place.

Bring a dog.

I am trying to wrap my head around this request. It's not going well. ("A dog? Well, I could bring a stuffed dog. Do I even have a stuffed dog? I might have a little plastic Strawberry Shortcake dog..." etc etc)

Wouldn't the expense of a longer stay mostly be airfare 'tween LAX and SFO? Unless we were lucky and s_vamp happened to get three consecutive weekdays off and we could all really go to Mendocino. Which I think you would love.

Borrow a dog. It needs to be a golden retriever or a Labrador. One of the big, friendly-looking breeds. No German Shepherds or Pinschers need apply. (I'm sure the inns are equally pet-friendly to cats. I assume the restaurants and stores would be, except cats don't WANT to spend time in strange human commercial buildings. Or go out in the rain.)
