Amazon had a Black Friday-Cyber Monday promotional offer of $3 credit at their mp3 store...which I should have mentioned earlier. My bad. But you're probably all set for music. Me, I still have more cassettes from the 80s than CDs, and almost all of my mp3s are ripped from my cd collection. So, given just enough credit to download 3 songs, I chose ( Read more... )

It was really hard for me to resist all the special offers. But I promised myself I wouldn't buy any more books (in English) or DVDs until the house issue is settled and I can see what state my finances are in.

I'm glad you found some good things to buy. Chess is one of my family's favorite musicals.

Argh, free music!! I am ALWAYS in need of music. Always. Just FYI. Always! :D (I still have cassettes too, and they taunt me whenever I want a song I don't have on CD... which has been often given how many mix tapes were made in my younger years.) There's a PILE of songs I need to get around to buying digitally at this point, oy.

Just to clarify: were you listening to the soundtrack of How to Train Your Dragon or the movie? I could watch that movie, like, EVERY DAY.

War documentaries and seriousness are all the rage right now, as is making kid stuff more "mature" ... I guess. Fail.

The movie (over and over and over...). Except, to be honest, I had to stop listening and watch the scene from the fish to the post-scribble event every single time. And the scene where the Terrors try to pilfer T's fish. And the scene where T is in Hiccup's room. (See how subtle I am, so as not to spoil Sara?)

I'm not much for soundtracks unless they're singy soundtracks. I just don't have the ear to appreciate most instrumentals.

I can't NOT watch ANY scene. I love this movie so much. (In fact, I just watched it again tonight.) You've reminded me, though, that I DID want the soundtrack - I really liked the music. I meant to get it ages ago but I guess I forgot. Ahh well, onto the wishlist it goes. Maybe I can pad an order with it some day.

But you're probably all set for music.

I am also all set for books! And DVDs! Wait, no, it's the opposite of that.

(Man, I get like 8000 e-mails from Amazon and they can't tell me the one thing that would actually be USEFUL to me? /sigh )

How could someone who enjoyed the cartoon enough to want to make it a movie miss all the charm and decide to go for a war documentary?

Doubly sad is that Shyamalon said in interviews that he took the job because his daughter loves Katara. So then he proceeded to completely wreck Katara's character? I feel bad for his daughter.

Aww, thank you for blaming Amazon instead of me. I'm really feeling crappy about this. I wouldn't have known about it if a friend hadn't told me, and I should have passed on the news immediately via journal or email. I am a bad friend!

Aww, I wouldn't blame you, and I certainly don't think you're a bad friend! To be honest, if I had known about it, I doubt it would've occurred to me to post about it on LJ.

Netflix has How to Train Your Dragon now? (Yes, I'm slow.) I never did get around to seeing that in the theater. *updates movie queue*

Re: music, my new favorite thing is Pandora streaming on my Tivo. I love Tivo so much. Even if, at the moment, I have 60 NCIS episodes and 40 Bones episodes waiting for me to watch, and that's not even counting the current seasons I'm behind on.

*spoiler alert*

You are going to want a Night Fury. You are going to want a Night Fury so bad that you will forget dragons are myth.

I haven't tried streaming music through my TiVo...I'm not sure my TV's speakers could do it justice.

Hey, does LJ no longer support the span tag? I color-coded that spoiler and everything!

Oh, hey, that's weird! It was spoiler coded originally, but then I highlighted it (I know, I'm a spoiler whore) and now it's all naked and exposed??

At least you're eclectic in good taste^^

My kids (and I) all adored How to Train Your Dragon, which was cool, because I'm less fond of the books (targeted to middle school boys = lots of toilet humor :p)

The Last Airbender is proof positive that M. Night needs to stick to directing (or better yet, cinematography) and never, ever touch another script again.

(Enjoy your Wii^^)

Thanks for the warning! I was thinking about picking up the books because I wanted to extend my enjoyment of the movie, but it sounds more like the books would tarnish the experience.

Agreed.
