Just to clarify: were you listening to the soundtrack of How to Train Your Dragon or the movie? I could watch that movie, like, EVERY DAY.
War documentaries and seriousness are all the rage right now, as is making kid stuff more "mature" ... I guess. Fail.

How could someone who enjoyed the cartoon enough to want to make it a movie miss all the charm and decide to go for a war documentary?
Doubly sad is that Shyamalon said in interviews that he took the job because his daughter loves Katara. So then he proceeded to completely wreck Katara's character? I feel bad for his daughter.

Re: music, my new favorite thing is Pandora streaming on my Tivo. I love Tivo so much. Even if, at the moment, I have 60 NCIS episodes and 40 Bones episodes waiting for me to watch, and that's not even counting the current seasons I'm behind on.

My kids (and I) all adored How to Train Your Dragon, which was cool, because I'm less fond of the books (targeted to middle school boys = lots of toilet humor :p)
The Last Airbender is proof positive that M. Night needs to stick to directing (or better yet, cinematography) and never, ever touch another script again.

Thanks for the warning! I was thinking about picking up the books because I wanted to extend my enjoyment of the movie, but it sounds more like the books would tarnish the experience.
