...so my DSL went down at noon yesterday. I assumed that meant they were working on/testing the phone line, so I waited it out until 3pm, when I finally walked into work. Where I discovered a phone message from the technician assigned to my trouble ticket. I called him back to find out why I now had neither phone nor internet service, only to ( Read more... )

What a pain! :( I hope the service guy somehow finds his way into your building today so you can have your internet back.

I must have opened my browser 5 or 6 times last night to look something up before remembering that I don't have internet.

This reminds me of when I'm at work and our internet is down. (Which means our phones will also be down.) I'll sit there at my desk, thinking, "I can do X...no, I need the internet. I can do Y...no, I'd need to use the phone" etc, etc. Inevitably, I end up cleaning my desk, because that's about all I CAN do.

Afterthought: have you considered/priced dropping your landline service for iphone (or other cell phone) service? I've been pretty ok with cellphone-only service for a couple of years now. I think maybe it was a little more expensive than my old phone service, but not much.

I'm still trying to decide if, when I get a new iphone (which is coming soon), whether I'm going to use it for tethering, or get an ipad with 3G service, or maybe both. (I am filled with indecisive.)

Happy holiday weekend, maybe!

...many moons later...

I have looked into cellphone service, but when I look at plans, I just get confused and frustrated. (I feel like a septuagenarian confronted with a VCR in 1985.) I really only want an iphone (I know, Apple fangirlism), so when I look at AT&T's plans, that means $39.95 minimum for voice, then I have to go to a menu of features for text and data that gets me so frustrated I just switch to Verizon: $39.99 for voice, then $10 for texting, then $30 for 2G data (and I really have no idea how much data I would use, though Verizon's calculator suggests I want a 10G+ plan). Anyway, that $80 is already more than I pay for landline + DSL, and I would need to continue to pay for internet at home.

I just can't see me affording a mobile phone until my student loan is paid off. Sadness.
