This is maybe what life is supposed to be like. Could that be so?

Last night, there was what seemed to be a drunken person creating a nuisance out in the street. I was dimly aware of it for about a quarter of an hour, and eventually, I went out onto my balcony to take a look. I could dimly see him sprawling about outside the door of the next-door tenement, and he was now shouting "help!" He still seemed to me to ( Read more... )

Amazing that I didn't see this entry at the time it was posted. I've wondered about the reason why a blogs hardly ever look like real journals. I have this thing with journals. I read them, collect them, read about them, the works. My own favorite journal is Anaïs Nin's, but there are many others. I could never understand just what keeps people (including myself) from writing in their blogs the way true diarists used to write in their journals before the internet came on. Here's a good example. What you wrote here is a true journal entry, and a darn good one too. It's fascinating. Pity you write so seldom.

I think My Own Private Idaho is one of the greatest films of its time. I don't understand why it's so underrated. I haven't seen it in a long time, and I don't feel inclined to do it now. I'm afraid it's going to make me very sad. River Phoenix's performance in it is one of the greatest in film history, as simple as that. The film makes it perfectly plain that he was one of the best film actors of all time and that he was probably ( ... )

(...)the reason why a blogs hardly ever look(...)

That "a" is an invader. I don't know how it got there. I'm going to call the police.

well, you did once say I'd have to excuse your terrible (i.e. almost entirely perfect) English.

Just to be ever so slightly pedantic:
"I've wondered about the reason why blogs hardly ever look like real journals". "I've often wondered as to why blogs hardly ever look like real journals" is more colloquial.

Very kind, Leo.
I think I was put off writing by university. I did science subjects at school, so we never had to write essays, we just got problems to solve. Suddenly when I arrived at university, I was faced with having to write these essays where you had to have a position of your own, and back it up with evidence: it was completely foreign to me, and I don't think I ever really got the hang of it. I found it a torment, really. In my adult life, I've had all sorts of white-collar jobs that involved writing, and I found that I could write well, but very veeerrrrry very sloooooooowly.
I guess that's why I don't post very often: it takes me a long time.

You think Leonardo DiCaprio's a genius? Wow. I'll watch him more closely. I think my favourite actor is Vanessa Redgrave. I've no idea how it works, or what "school" of acting she belongs to, but any time I see her I'm just absolutely riveted by her.
