Fic exchanges are awesome. I wish I had time to do them more often! Because how cool is it to give someone something they want and might squee over, plus get something to squee over yourself ( Read more... )

Guess it depends on who the author is. Are they someone who writes a lot or have you heard anything at all. Maybe two months, three at the most given that peoples lives are pretty busy. If no reply then perhaps another reminder but eventually you have to decide whether to contact the people who ran the auction and they might get someone else to do you a fic instead or give it up and decide ah well the money went to a good cause. I know myself how frustrating it can be though because their is the trust issue there. I won the services of someone way back in March of 2010 for an auction and they have disappeared off lj entirely. I heard that the person concerned was suffering from depression so I never did anything about it. I hope your person comes through though.

It's a couple different people I'm looking at, none of whom have contacted me about the auctions since I gave them prompts. One's a friend, actually, but she hasn't been writing much.

I think I'll send them polite messages and hope for the best. Like you said, it's not an omgtragedy if I don't get anything out of it, since I paid a good cause, not the author. But I'll get fic if I can, lol.

"But I'll get fic if I can"

LOL, yep understand that entirely. There is a wonderful feeling knowing someone has written something just for you.
