Rise with the sun

I'm not quite sure when this started anymore, but for the past 3-4 weeks, regardless of what time I've gone to bed, I've been unable to properly sleep beyond 5-6 AM. If bad comes to worse I could try to dress up as a pink ball with creepy huge eyes and attempt the Jigglypuff song. Although I don't think I can get high-pitched enough. It's the thought that counts, I guess? <<;

And seriously, lack of sleep sucks and I hope whatever it is gets figured out and sorted out. ^^

Doctors here tend to favour drowsy anti-histamines first, and only switch to proper sleeping pills if they don't work, or don't work well enough. Obviously, anti-histamines are safer than sleeping pills, aren't addictive, and have fewer side-effects. I've been given Atarax (hydroxyzine) for sleep problems before.

Also, have you tried sleeping with a mask or something blocking out any sunlight that's streaming in through your window and waking you up? Or blackout blinds?

Huh. As obvious as that may sound, I actually have not yet considered using a sleeping mask. I've looked for blackout blinds in the past and could never find them but I'm sure I could likely find a mask somewhere. Must do so. :o

I'll also keep what you've suggested about the medications in mind. I would definitely be interested in trying an anti-histamine verses going straight to a sleeping pill. My doctor is a bit traditional in his prescribing of medications but he's always open to listening to and trying different approaches. Thanks for the reply, baratron!

To be fair, you're sleep-deprived. Hence your ability to find the most obvious solution is going to be lacking.

You should be able to find a sleep mask in whatever Canadians have instead of Wal-Mart, either in the pharmacy or the travel sections. It shouldn't be overly expensive considering they're given away for free on long-distance flights.

This was true. Fair point, baratron!

Also, that's exactly where I ended up finding mine. Only cost $5 to boot. :)
