What's worse is that apparently it wasn't Bristol who was on the trip with Palin when Letterman made those comments but her younger daughter. So Letterman actually ended up saying that Alex Rodriguez knocked up her 14-year-old not Bristol. It's not clear whether that was intentional or not but it makes it even worse IMHO.

Also, where is Alex Rodriguez in all of this? If my name was used in a joke saying I had impregnated a minor I'd be ultra pissed!

Letterman has apologized for the mistake and also apologized for the content of the joke, so I do at least give him an ounce of credit for that.

I think A-Rod being attached to this joke is pretty stupid, too. He's supposedly dating Madonna (or something like that). So...this makes him promiscuous as well?

I've never really cared for the celebrity jokes. Sometimes they're funny, but more often than not, they're groan-worthy.

Well apparently A-Rod broke up his own marriage and Madonna's marriage because they were having an affair. I don't see how having one affair with a 50-year-old equates knocking up random minors who happen into your workplace either. It makes no sense.

And the apology that I saw Letterman give was a CYA at best. But at least he DID make it.

Really, make fun of celebrities and public figures all you want, but leave their kids out of it! Even if their kid happens to make a mistake - I'm pretty sure Bristol's life has been altered enough without the media making it worse!

I've never thought it was okay to make fun of the Bush twins for their indiscretions or even Chelsey for being "ugly". They're (or were at the time) kids!

No doubt! Kids are really cruel as it is. Do politicians kids really need ADULTS making fun of them?

We are a part of one seriously messed up society.

Yeah, I don't think either political party is beyond reproach. Republicans have corrupt politicians and so do Democrats. Hell, it wouldn't shock me if the Green Party had corrupt politicians.

I don't respect Sarah Palin as a politician and I consider many of her messages dangerous, but I do think she deserves some basic respect and her daughters do too. I haven't read much about the story with her daughter and the ridiculousness there (although I do recall some of what was written/said after the election), but if there's much truth to it then her parents, relatives, teachers, and principles have done her a disservice.

Great points, Jason. Ultimately, the issue comes down to respect. There are just certain things that are hurtful, when said to any human being ( ... )

I have posted on this before when the guy that hosted the MTV ( I think it was MTV) awards made jokes at Bristol Palin's expense as well as The Jonas brothers. If the guy wanted to make fun of Palin's poor parenting then great but when you bring kids into it it gets messy.

Granted Letterman did think he was making fun of Bristol and not the younger daughter. Bristol who is now 18 (correct me if I am wrong there)it isn't as bad to make fun of adults who do stupid things (Brittany Spears) and a baseball player who is a "player" after all.

Granted it was unfortunate for Letterman that it happened to be the younger daughter with Palin. I don't think they would have made such a big deal had it had been Bristol because well its been done before with out too much issues.
