Talk to a psychiatrist, pahleeeze? It will help.
Your alcohol story reminds me of when I tried to become a smoker in college - I found it unbearable.
There are a lot of better meds than alcohol - alcohol actually increases anxiety in the end!
Good luck to you!

Hey there. You are on your way...but you keep negating yourself...I'm not sure if a professional advised you to track for 2 years before getting a dx, but I do know that you can start getting help now.

I didn't know I was cyclothymic ---I hadn't tracked anything a good therapist dx'ed me and I was on my way to getting the help I needed.

Most BP people use alcohol or drugs or other habits to help them cope with their ordeal. Getting the right medication will help you to cope the hypomania and all the other wonderful phases that we go through :) so the alcohol will not be necessary, although you may need to get support for that as well.

And please, please, don't listen to the people who say...we all go through that. It simply isn't the same if it were everyone would be bipolar! They have no idea what this is really like...(here I am getting on my soap box.) Anyhow just wanted to reach out to you. You're not alone.
