I plugged the xbox back in to be sure that the red ringing was 100% repro for the repair guys and the thing worked fine. Go figure. Would like to get them to take a look at it in a way incase it dies just after warranty but such is they way.

Still, I chose to take a "yay able to watch stuff again" approach.

Yeah, they'll do that. They RR if it overheats, but once it cools down, it's fine again. You are probably approaching the end, though, and you can probably get them to replace it. The system keeps a log of how many times it's RR'd, even if it's not actually doing it at the moment, so they can tell. And if they're not too hot on the idea, ask for a manager. :-p

and in any case, you have another year of warranty on this, yes? mine took a bumpy landing into RR land.
