June is flying by!

Stuff keeps happening.  Really.  Like my parents thought I should buy a car, but then I didn't have the money.   And now I'm trying to figure out how to buy/rent land next year.  I want to farm about an acre, and I have a friend who wants to do it too.  Now, we just have to make a plan to make it happen.   I feel like this blog is ( Read more... )

Thank you! If I buy a big farmhouse, people who want to take a break from society will be welcome to join in exchange for rent or work.

Indeed...but I don't want to intern for the rest of my life- I need the money to actually buy a farm! :)

True enough ... but I think you'd also like to have a good base of knowledge before you buy. I assume you are wanting to do commercial farming? Or would the land's produce be just for your own consumption?

It would be a combination of the two. My plan is thus:

1) Save $50k minimum - this should take a few years, but I have almost no debt and plan to keep it that way.
2) Do my internship and decide exactly what I want to do - i.e. make sure I like farming.
2a) if I don't like it, I have $50k saved for a house or grad school.

That's why I'm putting off the internship. It will be easier to postpone farmwork than to go from something really fun and outdoors back into the office.
