I know it's considered by many (if not all) critics to be a cinematic classic, and I was looking forward to seeing it. Maybe it had to do with the terrible quality of the ancient VHS I saw it on and my not being able to make out what the subtitles said. I even gave it two chances; but I just did not enjoy the film. I'm toying with the idea that everyone with any legit cinematic knowledge has one (or several) films which are considered classics, but they just don't like. My friend James (film theory major) doesn't like Rashomon where as I've yet to find someone else that knows movies and doesn't like it. However, I still look forward to seeing Night and Fog and Last Year in Marienbad. I'll probably give Hiroshima another shot someday, but it will be quite some time in the future.
