"Kodak owns a patent which describes a way for a piece of software to "ask for help" from another application. What they are claiming is that Sun violates this patent when Java byte code uses the Java engine to run the code. Doesn't timeline mean anything in patent suites?!
I mean .. Java was first conceptualized way back in '91 and the language and JVM was launched in '95 itself.
And this patent of Kodak I believe is 3 years old!!!

Kodak bought the patents from Wang Technologies, Inc 3 years back.

The patents:

and
here

are continuations of original patents filed in 1987.

But doesn't this concept apply to languages like SmallTalk too? (talk of 1970s...)
