On a summary of my trip to N'awlins

Surprise! I was in New Orleans last weekend. It involved a very tame bachelor's party (tame, mind you). Lots of...fun, but I am going to pick on the airline industry and the extra adventures that resulted ( Read more... )

New Orleans is one of those cities I'd like to visit but have never gotten around to. Much like Kyoto. I think what I need is a job that either requires me to travel frequently or pretends not to notice when I disappear for a week and leave a smiling scarecrow at my desk.

And I am appalled by those callow youths who seem to have abandoned the fine art of the roadtrip in favor of flying. Kids, it's not a party unless you're crammed into a vehicle with three other people, four duffel bags, and innumerable bags and wrappers from Taco Bell. Also, it's cheating to book a hotel in advance.

Honestly. The youth of today.

Yeah, really! Spring Break trippers who can afford to fly to New Orleans? Bologna. They need to hit, like, Cancun or some place like that. I mean, seriously, that's not right for a college student to have that much disposable income. You know they're not getting the whole "college experience"...for example, taking the forklift to the grocery store when Ramen goes on sale to save yourself the two cents a meal.

@#$^*!@*^%)( kids. I also award bonus points to those intrepid adventurers who spend at least one night with all attendees crammed into the car. Oh, the agony. I think your neck never sits right after doing it once.

I did something like that on the road trip to the Tokyo Game Show, but it wasn't technically a full night (more like three hours), and we had borrowed the van of the illustrious Curry Guy, so there was spreading space. I think we almost had less space trying to fit five people of the floor of the itty-bitty one-room apartment of our friend in Shibuya. "Can everybody lie flat now? Good. Nobody roll over."

So many stories like this, and I can't believe people look at me like I have three heads when I told them I stayed up all night out in N'awlins. I mean, apparently it was time for Spring Break, I could have easily found a bunch of guys to crash with. Thanks anyway, I'll just sacrifice sleep. Rather, exchange sleep for coffee.
