Silent summer

Now you know I'm not all "the earth is warming! buy fluorescent bulbs or DIE!" But I just went outside to admire the lightning bugs and it occurs to me that the days and nights are very quiet for this time of year. I have noticed the quiet and the early and numerous lightning bugs. We did hear a very strange and unknown sound (insect, amphibian, mammal?) I did hear some crickets in the field behind the ballpark a few nights ago, but none here yet.

I imagine it's the wet weather.

The wet weather also screwed with the bees this season (like Greg needed any more trouble). When it rains they can't forage. They missed a good deal of the nectar flow (all of them, not just Greg's) because they were sitting in the hives. Greg'll have to feed them like mad and hope for a heavy fall nectar flow and NO RAIN!
