I'll take your gritty realism and make tarmac with it. Henceforth we will have the runway of realism. This should account for the increased number of realistic plane malfunctions as well as an extensive amount of overused literary devices including "flying off the handle," "Overshooting your target," and the ever popular "idiot on the plane with a bomb in the suitcase that looks a lot like Sonny Bono.
