hey, thanks. it's not my first . . . fourth or fifth, i guess. this is the first one that actually caused any major damage or killed anyone, though. it's also the first one that was big enough to have any noticeable aftershocks.
i'm going to china and possibly vietnam. i'm not going to have a permanent address for at least three weeks and possibly six weeks. and you wrote me that one time and sent me a book, so that totally counts. : )
yeah, i've actually slept through a few earthquakes here . . . and with the aftershocks from this one, i had my first moment of "what the fuck was that? oh, earthquake" and rolling over and going back to sleep. it was pretty funny to me later.
it's weird, though . . . maybe because japan has a much longer history than the u.s., they seem to have a much more blase attitude about "ordinary" historical structures and sites than people in the states do.
regardless, most of the damage was in wajima, which isn't known for a whole lot except seismic hot springs, and i'm sure those'll be all right.
