Have been listening to the songs from this film, and cant help comparing it with the older one. Only one song called Salaam karne ki arzoo hai...Idhar jo dekho salaam karlein... meets the standards set by the older Umrao Jaan's music

hey, i remember how you reacted to when i put that tamil music cd in your home when we ncst ians had a gala time at your place. its just that you can find good music in all languages and places. except, the proportion of what is good to hear and what is bad is not always the same everywhere. Its nice to have an "ear" for all kinds of music. You never know what you'll like. It could be anything from michael jackson to illayaraja, or jasraj to abida parveen.

I dont remember how exactly I reacted when you played the Tamil CD, but trust me if I disapproved of it then it must have got to do with the genre of the song and not with the language...I rememebr thoroughly enjoying Tamil version of Roja in fact more than the hindi version and I simply love many Bengali songs. Frankly speaking language has never been the criterion for my liking or disliking music! Its the kind of music that I am selective about (eg., I rarely like loud music)and I don't think there is anything wrong in it.
