A couple of things:
1. Although he appreciates tasty food, but I don't think he gives any more importance to food than the function it performs and mostly categorizes it as eatable and un-eatable.
2. Since he has grown up in different parts of the country, he has got exposed to many different cuisines in his formative years and there is little that he holds as "My way of eating or my food". If there is nothing as "my food" for him, there is nothing as "others food" either.

Yeah, I do believe that the more one is exposed to different cultures during one's formative years, the more tolerant the person grows up to be.
