Before we crown someone as India's very own Obama...

Nov 06, 2008 09:59

Almost everyone has claimed Barack Obama's victory to be special, considering his race which is also being regarded as an indicator of a "New/Changing America". Every other headline mentions his being a black alongside his getting elected. Not only that but Indian news channels have already started looking for India's own Obama ( Read more... )

Really true... pprakash November 6 2008, 05:49:38 UTC
India needs 'power in the hands of deprived' but it should be given carefully! We can't find Indian version of Obama as the politics we have is sentimental and not the developmental.
Then what we can have is one who respects the sentiments and manages the development. Media should first find what India needs and then go for finding suitable candidate (I think this media baji will really help politicians get sentiments on their side) And another thing We should get inspired by the great deeds of others but following them 'copy to copy and makhi to makhi' is also not accepted!(:-))
Thanks to sawani mam for posting such nice post!

I wonder if anyone in the current pool of politicians even remotely qualify to be termed as "Obama"!

It's amazing how, from a pool of qualities one can choose from, the media chose to highlight the most irrelevant one to assess Obama's presidential capability! I wonder why no one focuses on the Presidential debates and recommend having such a screening process for our candidates instead. John McCain's concession speech was the most gracious bow-out I have witnessed. Despite losing the race he pledged support to Obama and placed his country above all political gain. I know I'm belabouring Manogat's point here but it wont be wasted space...These are the kind of things we should be looking at emulating rather than waste time on caste, colour, religion and such things that are in no way concerned with running a nation.

Obama's win is not because of his skin, he deserved it. He never sold his skin to fetch votes (something, read selling caste/religion, which indian politicians are masters in) in the entire campaign. At the same time he faced racial remarks, remarks about his muslim ancestry from his opponents, may be those low grade tactics could have made lot many to take his side ( ... )
