My night at poker was, I think, representative of my life lately. My two biggest hands tonight are as follows (This is meaningless if you don't know 5-Card Texas Hold 'Em, if that's the case just look below the cut)
The first (90 minutes into the game, I'm down just a tiny bit):
Pocket: 5D, 8D (I'm the big blind, and I get to see the flop for free)
Flop: JC, 4D, 3D (I'm one diamond off the flush, call a modest bet)
Turn: 6D (made my flush, it's low but I'm one card off a straight flush and the other guy doesn't seem to have anything, I call "All In" he calls and has me barely covered and shows 6S, KH so I've got his trip 6's beat until...)
River: JS (6's full of Jacks, his full house beats my flush and puts me out, the odds were pretty slim, but not impossible. *sigh*)
The Second (after my buy-back I'm short-stacked, but playing tight, waiting for my chance to double up):
Pocket: AS, 5D (call the big blind not wanting to throw money at a hand that's not going to pay out until I see something good)
Flop: AH, 5C, 4S (Sweet Jesus! Top two pair with a lot of money in after the blinds! Without hesitation I call "All In", confident that even if someone calls I've got them dead to rights, one other person calls and he has me covered by a long shot, with... AD, 4C meaning my Aces and 5's are kicking the ass of his Aces and 4's he basically needs a 4 and there's only two of them left in the deck... I've pretty much got him dominated)
Turn: JS (meaningless)
River: 4D (4's full of Aces, another goddam boat knocks me out again)
Twice I was beaten by dumb luck on the last card of the hand for all my chips. If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all.
