Writer's Block: Fantasy Sports

They would have ask me a vampire / baseball question.

So the immediate temptation is to pick a guy that is the best, but that's a difficult thing to determine.  A-Rod makes more money than anyone else, but he's a douchebag, so he's out.  Albert Pujols is probably the best hitter in baseball right now, but he's a Cardinal, and my loyalty to the Cubs ( Read more... )

I'd go after a young guy who's doing well, just to keep him at his peak forever. So doesn't it have to be Gordon "Bacon" Beckham or Evan "Long Gone" Longoria? I mean, look at those nicknames!

Funny you mention a "young guy"... I was just reading an article about how young pitchers are never going to mature into 300-game winners like Clemens or Maddux because they rely too much on "stuff" and not mechanics and control. The result of this is that they never give their bodies a chance to settle in and get comfortable and so after 5-7 years in the bigs they have an injury and never fully recover.

So yeah, good thinking! Also, those are good nicknames! Right up there with my favorite TV color comentator: "Psycho" Steve Lyons.
