Everyone was extremely worried. People say restructuring/Reorganizing, and people immediately think lay-offs. Lay-offs are very familar. I have seen several, and have myself, been victim to one. Life changing and dramatic, they are never welcomed.
This round was very widesrpead, and does carry an impact on me. We are told this is what is done when we grow, and expand. It is a necessary change to expand and hire new people. I am still QA, and I still have a job. I just don't know with what product I am going to end up with next. (Which technically is not that far from where I was before I knew about this, but the options for where I might end up next are much more variant, and frightening)
My department was moved into another busines unit, from which, we were removed a few years ago. Like an accordion, we get pulled to and from each other every few years.
Where will I end up next? My personal career goal was to QA for the new medical applications. And with the re-org, came the question, "Where do you want to go next?" I used the oppurtunity to refresh in both my manager's and her manager's minds, the thought of my desire to QA medical applications. I may not even have the same manager I have now. Being entry level, I am the QA bitch, and they will put me in whatever position they feel I am most beneficial to them. But, I did make some high friends in the medical division, and three product managers, two engineers, a technical support manager, and a the marketing directors are loved me in tech support - so I am hoping to use this beneficial.
