New Year's Revolutions

Jan 04, 2006 08:55

Technically, turning a revolution means going around in a circle. Hence, my life.

If anyone's interested, it took me until January 2nd to break resolution No.3 on my list, which is pretty good. Most people don't last that long. The other two still look possible, however.

I've decided to try and write a chapter of something before the end of the ( Read more... )

Fantasy has always been my favourite of the two.

Being less negative is one of the things that I really need to work on myself.

Good luck with the writing & take care.

The reason you probably don't have any original ideas is that you haven't done anything particularly interesting or unusual with your life, and sadly don't seem to have been involved with any interesting or unusual characters. Maybe you should do something apart from passively engage with other peoples creations.

ooh its a troll.. i didnt know you got them quite so small and unseemly.. must be too much time under a rock being dull at things.

Writers block does happen to the best dear boy... though in your case i do believe the chopping block is more appropriate.

I also see the useage of 'probably' your not too imaginative flight of fancy .. indicating a lack of any real knowledge of the individual in question, plus being well read and dwelling upon some of the finer points one has encountered isn't so much a passive stance as a good grounding in the better arts available.

Not interesting or unusual? You haven't got a clue.

I asked for constructive criticism, thank you.

If you're going to take shots at me, have the good grace to do it without the veil of annonymity. Your assumption that my engagement with others' creations has been passive is fundamentally flawed. I don't do passive involvement.

I maybe used a tone that was a little too harsh but my point still stands. Artistic maturity is not innate.

"and sadly don't seem to have been involved with any interesting or unusual characters." I feel quite offended now.
It is has been there are only about seven stories. Many works of art (movies, books) are in fact the reading or watching history of the artist who produced them. I wouldn't worry to much about seeing other peoples work in your own. I doubt anyone could produce a truely good work of art without referencing someone else. (in fact a lot of art is praised for doing just that).

Take a look at your favorate book of film and see how times the idea used have turned up in others books and movies. So write away and don't worry to much about it. You can only find your own space by screaching through all the stuff thats out there already.
