Seems there's at least one other with at least a similar set of views on those aspects of capitalist society. I also agree that the people are the things that make the business, so should be treated with respect.
And if you choose to apply for the council job, good luck with that, and good luck with the job search in general.
The idea that people matter tends to die horribly as the retail market get bigger, there tends to be more organisation and less interaction between people. They can try to emphasise the personal interaction but as it get to the long distance memo style you get the Chinese whisper of {smile more, it makes more money} and without having a good network of team leaders (hard to do on any large scale) you end up with no satisfaction for employees. The few times I have heard of retails store size working is when the store manger is the really good type, the ones that will be hell to work for if you don’t pull your weight but will bend over backwards for you if you’re a good worker.
So basically retails sucks, mass market retail sucks the most.
It works like this. When the people at the top know whats goes on, money still matters but there is the human element. it gets bigger and the people at the top no longer see the bottom. They set targets (targets are more important then money btw) to hit the tragets the people at the bottom have to do stuff that people at the top really wouldn't actually want to see done, but they don't see it, so it's all okay.
It all looks nivcer as soon as you get off the front line.
