Dinner with Natasha

He was grateful that the place wasn't packed with people; it had been a while since he last saw or talked with Natasha. He gave his order to the waitress before turning his attention back to the red head spy.

He waited a few seconds, making sure that the waitress couldn't hear them before saying with a smile, "You have been a busy girl."

They were seated at a table in the back that allowed a good view of the door and the rest of the bar of course. It wasn't paranoia if it kept you alive.

Natasha shrugged. "You know me, I'd see you at workaholics anonymous meeting if there were such a thing."

"Sometimes a little time off is the best thing you can do to yourself," he says and takes a sip of his water. Shadowland might be over, but the memories are still fresh.

"I'm fine," she replied and flagged down a waitress. She ordered a bottle of vodka. She would ask Matt if he wanted anything, but she knew he wouldn't want anything stronger than water.

It was a half-lie, half-truth. She was fine for the most part and she didn't think about the parts of her life that weren't fine. Keeping busy helped her not focus on how messed up parts of her life were and how much of her life was a lie.

"How are you?" she asked. She knew what happened with him of course, she always kept tabs on him, but she still had to ask.

"I know what vodka means 'water' in Russian, Natasha, but a whole bottle?" He was smiling, but he was both cusious and worried about her. She wasn't his girlfriend anymore, but they were good friends and she was there with him when he needed her.

"Are you really okay? And don't say you're fine 'cause we both know that's not true."

His radar was never wrong and even the Black Widow wasn't able to fool it.
