Behind this cut, there is ... an incredibly long meme that I 'borrowed' from _debbiechan_. Nosy Questions Meme

1. The phone rings. Who do you want it to be?

Someone I know. I don't answer the phone if I don't recognize the number, or if caller ID says "Unknown Name." If Caller ID doesn't know you, then how am *I* supposed to know you?

2. When shopping at the grocery store, do you return your cart?

Well, like, yeah ... *scratches head*

3. In a social setting, are you more of a talker or a listener?

Listener. Most people like to talk, and typically they don't listen to what other people say.

4. Do you take compliments well?

I hope so.

5. Are you an active person?

Used to be, and hope to be again.

6. If abandoned alone in the wilderness, would you survive?

Depends on which wilderness. In a desert? In the tundra? In the wilds of Macys?

7. Do you like to ride horses?

YES.. Yes, yes, yes. ^_^

8. Did you ever go to camp as a kid?

Yes, from the time I was eight until I was sixteen. Sleepover camp, two weeks at a time. At least one year it was for a month, with a weird schedule; two weeks there, two weeks home, two weeks there. Absolutely gorgeous place in the Pocono mountains by Shawnee, right on the Delaware River. So, so lovely, such a wonderful experience.

9. What was your favorite game as a kid?

Greek dodgeball. Loved it - it was so competitive at my school!

10. If a sexy person was pursuing you, but you knew he/she was married, would you get involved with him/her?

Um ... no. Just - no.

11. Are you judgmental?

I try not to be "judgemental," but I make all kind of judgements all the time.

Funny question. In fact, I married someone who had the SAME religious beliefs I had; I came to realize that my beliefs were out of synch with my 'official' religion, and I converted.

13. Do you like to pursue or be pursued?

Does it matter? If there's something you want and/or need, it's not going to "pursue" you, so you'd better go get it. No one's going to bring it to you.

Some Spanish and Hebrew.

68. If you could have any job (assuming you have the skills) what would it be?

Why, the one where all the people I work with and work for are normal and rational, and treat everyone with respect, courtesy and dignity. And if I still chose to teach, the parents would recognize that their child needed to shoulder responsibility for their own learning.

69. Are you easy to get along with?

I am, unless someone tries to take advantage of me. I find that people dislike other people calling them directly on their bullshit.

70. What is your favorite time of day?

The time I get to call my own.

Friday Five:

1. What job do you have, and why do you like/hate it?

I'm a high school math teacher. I love it because I enjoy being with adolescents and watching them "get it!" without all the pain and misery that usually accompanies math education. I hate it because of all the dogma attached to teaching, the way math is taught out of context from the real world, the attitude some students have about learning, the attitude some parents have about learning in general, and the general attitude of entitlement that wafts around the high school like the bad stentch around a garbage truck. People aren't "entitled" to learn; learning is something that is active and that you achieve. Just because you show UP to school doesn't mean you automatically get "learning" stuffed into your head.

2. As a kid, what did you want to be when you "grew up?"

I can't recall any plans. My parents wanted me to pursue music, so from age 9 through 18 I took music lessons and became really, really good at piano. I'm pretty talented at art, though, and I do remember wanting to look at art schools, and my father sputtering indignantly "no."

3. Is the job you have now anything like what you imagined as a kid?

Oh, no. In 10th grade, I told my geometry teacher that "I was never taking math again!" - and at that point, I didn't have to, because my high school only required 1 year of math. I was going to be a musician.

Well, I'm still a musician, but what do I do for a living? Feh. -_-

4. Do you have a five-year career plan? Yes

What? Currently, I'm in school (again) to get a master's degree in Applied Statistics. That will happen in approximately 2 years. When that happens, I will also have enough credits to be one of the highest paid people at our school (with education and # years). Also, this degree will allow me to (a) do freelance work for pharmaceuticals, (b) do freelance work for ETS, (c) get another job when I retire. One can never be too educated, I feel

5. In order to get the job of your dreams, is there anything you wouldn't do? Why?

What's the job of my dreams? No working, and someone sends a paycheck? I'll never see that, so short of that, I have the job of my dreams; therefore, since I have it, all I need to do is keep it. ^_^
