okay, fist off, we all know why Katara was nowhere to be found in that episode, right? SHE WAS OFF WITH ZUKO KNOCKING BOOTS PLAYING PAI SHO.
Now that that's been clarified.
HOLY MOTHER OF FUCK. that was intense. I mean, it started off all low-key and maybe like this would be a breather episode despite the high stakes and KORRA BEING GONE and stuff and I was lulled into a false sense of security. Which was shortly lived because LIN BEIFONG ENTERED THE BUILDING.
Loved loved loved the team work. And the bending prowess displayed by everyone who bended even a little bit. Y'all, Bolin collapsed a tunnel. Mako's emotions were kind of really pressed and was he really going to burn that equalist dude? or is he just that good at intimidating? And Tenzin knocked people off with his airbending AND LIN MADE TOPH PROUD IN MANY AND VARIED WAYS.
But Korra. Guise. KORRA IS MY GIRL AND NO AVATAR HAS EVER BEEN THIS AWESOME. She found her zen, went into her past life's memories because she gets shit done, and then RESCUED HERSELF THROUGH SHEER INGENUITY AND YOU CAN TELL KATARA TRAINED HER. And then she showed how much she's grown by choosing to outwit/outrun Amon instead of facing him when she's clearly in a disadvantaged position. And then there was Naga and I may have whooped out loud.
Speaking of Amon. WHAT THE FUCK IS HE? OMG, HE CAN RESIST BLOODBENDING. HE CAN RESIST BLOODBENDING. HE. CAN. RESIST. BLOODBENDING. Not even Aang could resist bloodbending. And just like that, Amon's reached Azula levels of scary.
Toph's grown-up voice is everything I ever wanted it to be. And Sokka remains Sokka even tho he's a politician now (and who was that Airbenders representative sitting next to him? Couldn't have been Tenzin) and I was not expecting that, tho in retrospect it makes sense he'd become TSWT's representative in RC. Whatever. Point is THERE WAS NO KATARA OR ZUKO OR AZULA AND YOU EXPECT ME TO CARE? like, it was awesome to see Toph and Aang being all bffs and stuff (Twinkle Toes is still a thing, d'awwww), and Sokka sounds like Sokka and still loves his boomerang and is generally very clever, and Aang kind of failed at stirring emotions in me one way or the other. BUT WHERE IS KATARA. WHERE IS ZUKO. WHAT HAPPENED TO AZULA? ARE THESE QUESTIONS EVER GOING TO BE ANSWERED?
Whatever. Whatever. Korra rescued herself and was generally awesome. Tarrlok is out for the count, apparently. Lin and Tenzin make an excellent team. Asami may be on her way to heartbreak ::sobs:: and Bolin should really have dumped that tell-the-truth duty onto Mako. Who, on his end, gave me strange feels when he touched Korra's face like that, I mean, he combed her bangs and ran his knuckles down her cheek and imayhavegoneinto'vicariousliving'modethere shuddup. I liked that moment, because apparently we're supposed to be 'shipping these two and, so far, Mako's actions this episode could have been interpreted (lbr, guys, I live in Interpretations For Free land. I ship fanon pairings like it's my job, I watch Merlin, I unwisely bond with the secondary characters more strongly than with the protag on a regular basis. If something can be interpreted in a way that more or less differs with what canon is presumably telling us I WILL JUMP ON THAT TRAIN JUST TO FEEL THE WIND ON MY FACE) as Korra Must Return To The Nest And Mama Mako Will Make Sure She Does, but then he goes all tender on her and yeah, I kinda see it. He was not this frantic when Bolin was missing, tho, so there's also that.
AND HOLY SHIT, WE GET ONE WHOLE HOUR OF FINALE SHENANIGANS IN WHICH KORRA WILL DRESS UP AS AN EQUALIST AND MY HETEROSEXUALITY IS LIKELY TO MAKE ITSELF SCARCE. And there will be EXPLOSIONS ahoy!
I need a hug. Piper, come and hug me.
