It was Christmas and my dad decided to give me a build-it-yourself radio set - a whole afternoon of father-son bonding condensed into a copper coil, two wires, and an ear piece.  After the traditional procrastination period of six months that any Hughes project requires as a minimum, we began a feverish hour-long war of frustrastion and agony.

You were molested as a child, weren't you? You don't have to mask it with euphemisms and allegories about radios and coils...or maybe it's just too much time spent desperately searching for symbols in Lord of the Flies that made me associate coils with snakes and snakes with evil and penises (though they're really the same thing).
