[He only turns his eyes away from the door for a instant, pinning the other him with a swift, narrow glare. When his focus returns to it's previous place, his body stays slightly more tense than it had been before. He can feel the fragility of the other man, and does his best to conceal his own lingering weakness from the events of the day before.]
Superb. This shouldn't be much more tortureous that dragon-dentistry.
[He can feel his own temper starting to smoulder and one hand rises to touch the jewel hidden under his tunic. The small pulse of affection and warmth is enough to enable him to bite his tongue.]
::That would be a good starting place, or do you really believe the best interests of our people are served by the constant distrust?::
[He raises one eyebrow, letting his gaze sweep over those assembled in the room and still not looking at the other him.]
{That? If you mean my distrust, let me point out that you have not yet given me any reason to trust you. Since this situation has begun, this kingdom has been subjected to danger and chaos.}
[Now he turns to look at his double again, expression impassive but for a faint hint of exhaustion behind the mask he forces.] {You will forgive me for not wanting to hand the well-being of my people into the hands of one whose intentions I cannot know. Should you wish trust, earn it.}
...you do this for Edwyn. You promised to behave as befits your rank.
[He doesn't react physically. He refuses to give his double that much satisfaction]
::How strange.:: [The most he can manage is to keep his mental voice flat.] ::I was not aware that it was my behaviour that was causing the problem. Tell me, is it some custom of this world to snub anyone who does not grovel appropriately?::
[his eyes narrow still further as his shields threaten to buckle]
::And exactly what purpose does it serve to try and murder someone for the 'crime' of attempting to help with a bad situation? For truly I must confess I am almost entirely at a loss.::
