Conrad sat in a chair outside of Yuuri's office, dozing. If his brother came by and saw him sleeping, Gwendal would skin him alive.

Yuuri exited the office, all happy-go-lucky gay, baseball in one hand. He grinned when he saw Conrad. "Come play with me!"

Conrad jerked awake when the big bouncing ball of gay came out of the office. He smiled at the boy. "Of course."

Yuuri sparkled at him and grabbed his wrist, pulling him to his feet and out the door. "Come on, Conrad!" He said, standing in the courtyard and winding up his arm like a pitcher. "Here it comes!" And he threw the ball.

Conrad had to jump to catch the ball, diving in the dirt. He turned to look at Yuuri before throwing the ball back. "Heika, what is troubling you?"

Yuuri threw the ball back, with more force than anything that skinny should have been able to muster. "...Nothing." He said, but his expression got sober and a little miserable.

Conrad stood and watched the ball go sailing over his head before he turned back to the king, crossing his arms.

"...I just...I thought I'd be okay, I mean, with Wolfram liking Murata, but I'm not..."

Conrad sighed and went up to the boy, putting an arm around him. "Come on. Let's walk."

Yuuri leaned against the broad, manly expanse of Conrad and walked with him.

Conrad sighed. "It hurts, doesn't it?"

"Yeah. I mean, I thought...I'm with Shou-chan, I guess, kind of, and, uh, I really do love him, but Wolfram's just...its like I know what I could have had."

Conrad was quiet for a bit. "Do you love Shouri-heika?"

"Of course!" Yuuri protested

"Do you?" he insisted.

"I do! I just, I don't know, I really want to just be with Shouri and forget about Wolfram...but...but...sometimes I can't..."

"It's hard to forget the person you first fall in love with," the soldier replied, nodding. "Close to impossible. But unless you're willing to do something about it... there's nothing you can do. You have to make peace with that."

"I do...I mean, I have...but we try to be friends and everytime we do I feel bad, Conrad." He leaned on Conrad. "Bad because I don't know how to be Wolfram's friend."

Conrad chuckled. "I find that hard to believe," he said. "Yuuri Shibuya unable to make friends with someone."

"Well, Wolfram doesn't like baseball." As though that was where all his friend-making-skills lay.

"Well, what do the two of you have in common?" he urged gently.

"...Nothing." He muttered. "Wolfram likes to fight and I can play baseball and he can't even call me a wimp anymore without me wanting to kiss him!!"

Conrad sighed. "You have a daughter, Heika."

"...I know." He sighed. "I guess me and Wolfram have that in common."

"That's just one thing you have in common," he replied. "You just need to figure them out."

Yuuri grnned. "You think so? But what do I do about wanting to kiss him?"

Conrad smiled back down at the boy. "I know so. How else could the two of you help to make the country a better place?" He grew sober as he thought about the second question. "Honestly... I don't know."

He sighed. "You've never been in love with anybody, Conrad? I mean, in love with somebody who doesn't love you back?"

Conrad smiled sadly. "Yeah. I have. And she died."

Oh, yeah. Julia. Yuuri squeezed Conrad in a hug. "I'm sorry. How did you, I mean...not...." Kiss her. Touch her. All the things he wanted to do around Wolfram.

Conrad smiled and rubbed Yuuri's back. "It's okay. It was a long time ago."

Yuuri nodded. "I guess so." He said, wondering how he would ever survive if he lost Wolfram or Shouri, or, hell, even Murata. "I don't know.

Everythings just so complicated."

Conrad chuckled. "Life is complicated. If life was easy, it wouldn't be... well life."

"That's a lot of help." Yuuri whined.

He chuckled a little. "Sorry, Heika, but that's just how it is." He smiled softly. "The pain fades, Yuuri," he said quietly. "It takes a while, but it fades."

"...What do I do until then?" Yuuri asked with big pitiful gay eyes.

Conrad smiled softly and ruffled his hair. "You cope with it. Find a way to deal."

Yuuri nodded, tossing his baseball pitifully. Well, at least baseball would never abandon him. "Thank you, Conrad."

Conrad smiled softly. "Don't be afraid to come talk to me," he said. "Talking with someone helps."

Yuuri grinned, then spotted Gunter heading toward him like a very annoyed gay wind. "Uh-oh. I gotta go."

Conrad laughed. "Shoo. I'll try to stall him long enough for you to get back to your office."

Yuuri took off at a run. Gunter spotted him and ran after him, yelling "HEIIIIKA!!"

Conrad couldn't help but laugh. "Gunter, be nice to the kid!" he called out.

Gunter was too busy chasing Yuuri and sparkling to pay attention to Conrad. It was hard work sparkling that much.
