Forgetting all about your distance learning module until the weekend before the first assignment? NOT to be recommended. Especially since it's all about Java programming, and I am starting with zero programming experience. Hmmm ( Read more... )

oooh dear. Java in itself is not difficult, but I am horrendous at applying it (and using the weird form that is used to program google phones). Have they recommended any books to be used? I've got a book in pdf form I could email to you if you need it - it's a 'learn java in 21 days' book but I find it's pretty good with explanations and such.

I'm having real problems keeping all the different concepts clear in my head! It's partly because I've rushed through it, but everything is a bit vague for me at the moment. And the code wasn't very elegant that I came up with - I had the nagging thought that there were more direct ways of approaching the algorithm I was attempting!

So yes, please, I would very much appreciate the pdf - I'm working through course notes, with reference to various bits I've found online, but haven't got any books yet... Thank you!

I'll send it to you as soon as I get home :) I find I learn best if I'm actually making something so that way I get feel for what code does in particular places (unfortunately, with android, there's just not that much in terms of what I'm trying to make, argh) so you might benefit just by doing the project, even if it's not the most direct - I know what I'm building now is faaaaaaar from efficient but at the moment I would be happy if it just worked!

Thank you! I did the project and completed it with surprisingly little trouble, although I did feel I was doing things the hard way - and not quite understanding what I was doing right! But I was happy it worked - and I'll not be leaving it to the last minute next time!
