LOL!!
Okay, I know it is funny to you right now, but you did a very funny job recounting it. Good luck! This is why my dad still takes all our taxes to a real person accountant.

Yeah, tax people would be nice, but I made well below the poverty line last year (doing my taxes by myself, instead of as a dependent of my parents), and I only had three forms to fill out so it wasn't really worth it to go to an accountant. I think I'll end up doing that next year, though.

I'm no longer a dependent either, but my dad just takes all the taxes in at one time; I think he gets a better deal that way. Be prepared that accountants cost money too, tho. Some of my tax refund got eaten by the cost.

Even if there is a fee, if it's less than the 800-ish I have to pay now that's cool.

H&R Block?

My dad uses Turbo Tax so he told me to use it now that I'm doing my own taxes. H&R Block said I was getting almost $600 dollars back, I wound up using Turbo Tax because it had all my information for previous years, and they gave me a return of like $250. I'm so tempted to go back and amend as many years as I can now that I know how to do taxes, because I feel like my dad has been ripping me off by using Turbo Tax instead.

Federal's free, and I don't know how your state works but you can file MA taxes free at our state site if you're below the poverty line.

If it's free, it might be worth it. I'll call them in the morning. Thanks for the advice.

Their site is free for federal, not their in office service. I think state's like $30. But look into your own state's policy for just using the government site, and you might want to file for an extension, to be safe.

So I used TurboTax for the first time this year and it was really stressful because this was the first time I was doing it by myself....but actually I got a LOT back in refunds. However, the only deductibles I have are student loan interests, and I had really simple forms, and it sounds like you had more to do, so it gets hella complicated that way.

I know LOTS of people were having issues with TT, you could see it in the LiveCommunity chats. Sometimes doing it by yourself just doesn't cut it... Maybe next year you could H&R Block it, then see how they did it and the year after do it yourself to save money??? Idk..
