[xposted to maplecomm and maplestoryI was thinking of buying a pet because I read they can help you collect enemy drops. I think that would be pretty useful instead of running all over everything pressing "Z" repeatedly. Anyway, if I were to buy a pet, what should I be looking for? What do they do specifically? Personally, I love my pet to death because it does get rid of the need to pick up your own stuff.

However--

Yes, you do need the meso magnet and item magnet to have him pick stuff up. Also, if you want him to do it while you're just standing there or pick up items from party members, you need other items as well. I sometimes end up picking my own stuff up anyway because my pet doesn't get to it or can't reach it and that really defeats the purpose of having it.

Also, once you get one, it'll become an almost addiction that you'll need to fulfill every 90 days because hey! When you're lazy and have the means to get a pet, why not?

All in all, it depends on you and you alone. If you can afford it, I personally think its a great investment. If its a one and done thing, it might not be worth it at all because in 90 days, you'll be back to picking up your own stuff anyway.

Awesome! Thank you for the info. If I do buy a pet, which one should I buy? Don't they have different personalities?

I agree with the person above. ^_^

Some pets will listen to you more than others when typing commands, but apart from that, I don't really find that they have any advantages/disadvantages as individuals - it's mostly what you like, appearance wise. :)

Honestly, its more like they have different commands and some listen more than others, like the other person said. I have a Tiger and my gf has a Dragon and I think her dragon listens more. Its really just preference when it comes to that. (:

I don't have a pet anymore because when I got a new laptop I didn't have it for a while and so I hadn't been able to play MS so all my NX has expired, but I did love having my pet.

NX Cash expires? I just put some money in my account. How long will it stay there?

The cash doesn't expire, the items do a few months after you purchase them.

With exception of hair. But like, clothes and such expire.

I know maple points expire but I'm quite sure that NX expires after a year (paypal and nx card stuff) because it has for me...

Anyway your pet can only pick up stuff from monsters you kill, not from other party members, so if you're leeching then you can't pick up the drops from the person who's selling leech to you.

Also some pets get hungry slower than others, I think the kitty is the one that needs to be fed the least. I only have a Jr Balrog and Mini Yeti and the balrog gets hungry at about 4 hungers? o_O than the yeti.

You can get wing boots and stuff to make your pet's range higher in walking.

They can pick up party member drops and even other players drops *with* the right cs items. =]

oh ok, never bothered to buy wing boots and magic scales (the description for those are so vague and weirdly worded) so didn't know that.

I pick pets I like the look of. They do kind of have different personalities, but I've never found one that does everything I tell it to anyway ;)

I have had a bunny, a tiger, a kargo, a penguin and a dragon. I like the dragon best cos it looks the coolest.

The add-ons:
meso magnet - pet collects mesos monsters you have killed have dropped when you walk the pet over the mesos
item pouch - same as mesos but for item drops (if inventory isn't full)
hp potion - pet will consume potions when you reach the hp level you specify so you can chib away and not worry about hp so much
mp potion - same as hp but for mp
magic scales - pet knows when item/meso ownership expires and will pick up other people's drops (only works if you have meso magnet/item pouch applied)
wing boots - pet will move to mesos/items dropped to collect them (same as previous bracket, will move to other people's drops if you have magic scales)
binocular - pet will walk further to pick up drops (same as previous bracket).
