Chapter 1
Driving a car was my dream. Being an F1 racer was also my dream. But they were only my dreams. I do drive a car, but I’m not that fast to be in F1 racing. Now, I ended up being a bus driver.
Driving a big car such a bus wasn’t bad at all. It was just a bit harder ‘cause of the weight. I also like the uniform. It’s cool, and it has police-like hat. What made me even happier driving a bus was… I could meet him.
Here he goes…, the kawai kiido.
“Ohayou gozaimasu!” I greeted him. It wasn’t that I just greet him. I do greet everybody.
He beeped the card to the machine. Then went to his seat without saying any word. I knew his seat. It’s not particularly his seat, but he always sits there. The seat in my line, second from the back. He always looks out side, with his plain eyes. Now that I see him again from the driver mirror, it wasn’t plain eyes. It was rather sad eyes…. I wonder what makes him look like that…. The high schooler like him should at least go home together with friends, or even a girlfriend. Flirting the girls in Shibuya, going to a goukon, playing the pachinko sometimes. Ah, all of it were no other my wild dreams, huh?
“Have a nice day!” I thanked him. It’s here. His school. From the uniform he wore, I knew that he’s the student of Heisei Gakuen. Not an elite high school, but it does have so many clever students. And it became famous because of that.
“Let’s change the shift!” the manager, Jii-san-we called him so because of his age; brought out the very bad topic I didn’t want to hear. We’re in the office now. In the big parking place for the bus from every lines.
“Eh?! Jii-san? Doushite?” Why do we have to change the shift?
“What?? You don’t want to do it?” Jii-san snapped and glared at me seriously.
“It’s not like that! But eh….” How could I say to him that if the shift was changed, I couldn’t see that kid anymore?
“Or…, you have a crush on someone, who always got in to your bus in a certain time?” I don’t have a crush on someone. Well, I’m not sure if I do, but-how could he guess that?!
“Don’t involve your love story in the job.” It wasn’t love, Jii-san. I just somehow…, like him….
Anyway, you’re so mean Jii-san…. It was the only way to see him…. Now that I’ll work in the different shift…
“Let’s decide it with jan ken pon!” What?! Didn’t I hear jan ken pon?
“Ahahahaa! Don’t joke around Johnny-san…,” the others were laughing.
But it wasn’t a joke. Johnny Jii-san surely made us to do jan ken pon to decide the new shift. And as the result, I ended up driving the bus in the same line, but it was in the night shift. Oh my…. This will be the end of my doki-doki morning…. Yeah…. When I met him, my heart beat faster. From now on, the probability for me to meet him was..., zero. I mean, if I stayed in my morning shift, I could at least see him and take him to his school. But if it’s like this….
“Konbanwa!!” I felt a bit strange greeting with ‘konbanwa.’ Someone beeped the card. I made sure of myself that it was really a someone. I mean…, human. In a time like this, the autumn breeze surely was cold and scared me. You know what I mean, don’t you?
“Ah…, driver-san…! So you really change the shift?” Who the hell are you kiido?
I lift my face, trying to look him properly. Wait…, did I say kiido?
“You…”
