“Huwaaa!!! So handsome!”
“I think they’re rather cute…”
“Where are they from?”
“Aren’t they… from Tanimura all boys private school?”
“EH?! That super cool high society’s school?”
“Gyaaa!!! I know from gossip that they have such superb handsome boys, but this is the first time I saw them!”
Girls…. Your expectation is just too high. We’re not that awesome…. We indeed study in one of the prestigious school in Japan. But, what’s so cool to attend an all boys-school? All of them are just boys! Boys everywhere! And with the big name of our school, it made us a bit suppressed though. When we’re going to a group date to be hit by some girls, we ended up receiving their judgment which is with some sort of far to be realized opinions. In the end, the girls would slowly step backward from us, keeping some space from us, and enjoying themselves by just praising us. What do they call us once again…?
“They’re just too good to be true….”
“Too precious to be held….”
“Too high to be reached….”
Yeah…, something like that.
“Welcome Student Council members of Tanimura Gakuen. It’s a pleasure for us to greet such a precious guests.” Here we are the Student Council members of Tanimura, to attend the invitation of an average public school, Sekai Gakuen.
“No, it’s an honor for us to be invited by your school. I hope this would bring us a happy co-work.” Inoo Kei, our student council president is really happy for this invitation. He even made some programs to be presented here. Well, aside from the fact that our school consists of only boys, the image that said we’re too unreachable is actually true. We ARE unreachable in the real meaning because our school was placed in a hill far from the main city with the dorms behind it. You can imagine how unreachable being we are. And this invitation actually is the best excuse for us, the students, to get out from the hill which is far from the society. Even though the program would only last for a week, but this would be a heaven for us, the Student Council.
“I’m sorry that we can’t walk all of you to the entire school building, because all of us actually are in the preparation of our bunkasai (cultural festival).”
“Bunkasai?” Inoo was so excited his eyes sparkled. So were we, the other council members.
“Yes. This week would be our last weeks to prepare. All of the classes had already done with their main attractions, and these last week would be something what we call finishing week.”
“Was it a nuisance that we came here now? Should I postpone it until the bunkasai is over?” Inoo’s right. This would be such a burden for them who’re actually in their busy time to prepare the bunkasai.
“No!! That’s not what I mean. Like I said, we are in our finishing week, so 98% of the preparations are already done…,” Yabu Kouta, the Student council president of Sekai Gakuen replied.
“If it’s not a burden, then I’m happy,” Inoo smiled and titled his head a bit.
Wait… WHAT?! Did I just see that Sekai’s Pres just blushed? Masaka…?
“So, can we attend your school’s bunkasai?” Inoo flashed his killing smile. And the others, who weren’t used with it, just amazed and bewitched by it. Ah…, I think too much about the all boys things so I just thought about the Sekai’s pres who probably fell in love with Inoo. He was just bewitched with his smile, right? The others were also bewitched by it.
“Daichan…, wouldn’t you greet our new friend?”
“Huh?” I was daydreaming. “Ah, sumimasen! Arioka Daiki desu. I’m the vice president of student council of Tanimura Gakuen. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!” Ah…, what a bad impression I gave…. Daydreaming at a time like this…. Jeeez….

“Braaak!!!”
“Oi, Kouta!” that surprised us, who’re in the Sekai’s student council’s room.
“Yuya! Such a rare to see you here!” Yabu-kun approached the guy who opened the door harshly before.
“Where’s your promise to repair our club room?” he protested. Such a bad guy he is, talking to the pres with that kind of behavior.
“Ma, ma…, you know that we’re busy with the bunkasai right now. Can’t you wait till it ends? Besides, we actually have a special guest here.” This is our third hour here. We, the student council of Tanimura watch how other student council works. We plan to learn something new from them and also exchange programs, such as how to manage the student council’s money, make a report more effective and easy to understand, and so on.
“Well, I’ll forgive you this time. But make sure to repair it for us.”
“Hai, hai! Ah! Let me introduce you to our guest then. Here’s Inoo Kei, the president of Tanimura’s student council.”
“Whoa! That Tanimura?!” What? Does a guy like him also adore us, the Tanimuras?
“This is Arioka Daiki, the vice president, this is Nakajima Yuto, the treasurer, and this is Chinen Yuri the secretary.”
“Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!” we almost do a choir when we greeted this bad guy.
“Cool!!! To see them directly like this is just so cool! They’re the RICH people who don’t even intend to live in the same world with us, right? They even have their own dorm over the hills, right?” he spoke too much. And what worse was, his lines were just a bit provoke us.
“Most of us are PRETTY RICH, to have a helicopter arriving us to school every week after the weekend off-day. But there’re also scholarships students with PRETTY BRILLIANT BRAIN who’ll spend their time in the dorm even if it’s weekend because they don’t want to bother their family about the money they could spend if they go home.” Oh my God! Why did I say such unimportant thing? He was just like the other’s who thought that we’re a ‘different’ creature with our superb coolness and so on.
“Tap, tap…,” he walked towards me. Is he trying to beat me or something? I should be braver then!
“So, you’re trying to say that you have a PRETTY.BRILLIANT.BRAIN?” he narrowed his eyes, cornering me with that stare. “Cih! What a cocky kid!” He smirked. His annoying smirk really made me want to punch him out. If only nobody’s there, if only I was in my school, if only we’re not in our student council program…. After saying that, he left us in the student council room.
“Ahhh…, gomen na! Please forgive him! He doesn’t intend to pick a fight or something. I guaranteed!” Yabu-kun brought us back to the project we talked before.
“Daichan…, please be more respect to others, ALRIGHT?” gritting his teeth, forcing a smile, Inoo had this black aura when he scolded me. Well, I know it’s my fault. Such a not proper attitude I gave before, even though we’re guests here.
“I think you’ve found your rival, na Daiki?” I gave a ‘what do you mean’ look to Yuto who said that to me.
“I think he’s not a bad person, Daichan…,” what now Chii? What just happened to you all? I just want to make clear that his judgment about us is not true at all! Not all of us are sons of the very rich people! He doesn’t know that some of us, or at least ME, really fought with others to get the full scholarship! He doesn’t know that now as a full scholarship student, I have to keep my grade on top among the others! Or else, I’ll be kicked harshly! He doesn’t know….
Yeah…, he doesn’t know. Then why was I mad at someone who doesn’t even know me? What’s wrong with me today? I was daydreaming in the morning, and now I am mad at someone I don’t even know….

“Ii naa…, the preparation of the bunkasai…,” Chinen mumbled by himself, looking at the other students from the second floor student council’s room window.
“We do have bunkasai.” Yuto added.
“But our bunkasai were just so boring! We only do class performance every year. And it would always be theatrical dramas, classical music performance and choir,” Chinen mumbled. That’s right. Because our bunkasai is limited for student’s family and some VIP guests, we couldn’t do other performance or what other schools does in their bunkasai.
“Ah! It’s him! Takaki Yuya, right?” Yuto then followed Chinen to see the school yard from the window.
“Dai-chan, didn’t you say you wanted to apologies to him?” Yuto reminded me. That’s right. I feel sorry to mad at him yesterday.
“I’ll be back in ten minutes!” I rushed to the door and going downstairs to see him. I shouldn’t be mad at him at the first place. He was just the same with others who judge us as a cool, rich and out of reach students, in fact they don’t know us a thing. Because they don’t know us, they can expand their imaginations about us freely.
“Kyaaa!!! It’s the Tanimura boy!”
“As expected from Tanimura! He’s so beautiful!!!” Did I just make a fuss here? Dame! It’s not time for this.
“Sumimasen…, do you know where Takaki Yuya is?”
“Kyaaa!!!! He spoke to me!!!” Ah…, hey… I asked you….
“What do you want from me?” someone from behind asked me with an unfriendly tone. It’s my fault to make him spoke to me like that.
“Takaki-san…, I really am sorry for yesterday!” I bowed deeply to show how sorry I am. “I shouldn’t be mad at you like that, so once again, I’m sorry!”
“What are you? A tsundere?” Huh?! “Yesterday you were just like a crazy man angry at me out of nowhere, and now, look at this!” is he trying to make me angry again?
“I just want to say that, bye!”
“Wait!” he held my wrist. “Don’t be so easy to get mad, boy…. Sorry for my bad attitude. I really didn’t intend to pick a fight with you.” He seemed serious now.
“Yuya! Help me with this!” someone asked him for help. After he excused me, he hurriedly went to his friends.
‘He’s a good person. He’s a very good friend. He’s the mood booster,’ was what Yabu said to me about that guy named Takaki Yuya after he made me mad.
‘We’ve asked him many times to join the student council but he refused to because of a simple reason. But that reason really is not simple at all.’
‘What’s that?’ Chinen was eager to know.
‘If he joins the student council, he could only help his friends from a far place because we usually have so many things to do for the other student’s sakes, but in fact we couldn’t always be together with them. Somehow we, the student council unconsciously build an unseen barrier that makes us far from others. The others thought that we’re unreachable. And he doesn’t want that.’
“Daichan…!!!” Chinen waved his hand from the second floor window. Damn! What the heck am I doing still standing here?
***
“Heee…, is that another confession?” it was the fifth day and I was with Yaotome Hikaru-kun, the Sekai’s Vice Pres. We’re in our way from the storage room to get some properties for the meeting. We held a medium sized box each.
“That girl is the fourth one this month before the bunkasai.” I saw a girl with red shy face across someone I thought I know who he is. “They surely do early start to get his heart, huh?” is that guy… Takaki Yuya?
“What do you mean?” I don’t get what he’s talking about.
“You know, every year after the bunkasai is the confession time.”
“Confession time?” what’s that mean?
“You don’t know? After the bunkasai, there’ll be so many new couples born because it became a common tradition to confess the one you love after the bunkasai.” This is the first time I heard this. “Well, you know, after the bunkasai, we’ll head the semester test and final exam for the third year. It’s as…, if you don’t do it now, you’ll regret it. And for Yuya, it’s the fourth girl who confessed to him even before the bunkasai started.” So…, that’s how it was. I didn’t know they have such a nice tradition. And I didn’t know that guy really is popular among the girls….
“Aaah…. Will someone confess to me this year?”
“Why don’t you be the one who confess?” I mean, why do you have to wait?
“Hahaha…! You’re right! Actually last year I was just waiting for a girl who’ll confess to me, but this year, I’ve made up my mind to confess to her. Yooosh!”
I think I’ll copy Chii’s line. Ii na, the bunkasai. Such a new thing I just know. It would be nice to have someone you love loves you back at a time like that.
“Hikaru!” I stopped my step as someone called out Hikaru’s name. I and Hikaru-kun turned back to see someone’s coming.
“Yuya! Didn’t you just…?” Hikaru-kun’s questioned face followed by mine. I thought I also have the same thing to ask to him, but before Hikaru-kun could continue neither his question nor I ask him a question, Takaki Yuya already held up the box Hikaru has held before and place it on the box I have.
“Come with me!” he dragged away Hikaru who’s still confused and they left me behind.
HAAA?!?!?!?!
***
“If you use the diagrams, it would be easier to understand than such a long sentences below.”
“Whoa! You’re right! Then, what about the students-mapping?”
On our sixth day, we made the program to be more compact because we don’t have much time left. Tomorrow would be our last day here. And tomorrow, the bunkasai will be held. By tomorrow, maybe I couldn’t see him anymore….
Why did I just think about him?! This has nothing to do with him! About I go back to Tanimura has nothing to do with him. We don’t even have anything in common! All this time, all he did was just irritate me! Yesterday he even mocked me by dragged away Hikaru and left me behind with my hands full of boxes. He sways around in my mind every day. But since when? Since when did he become a nuisance for me?
“Minna! Tomorrow will be the last day of our program. After hearing each other’s reports, we’ll join the bunkasai together. But before that, I’d like to say thank you to all of you, for sparing your precious time, coming to our school and shared your super brilliant ideas. Thank you very much!” Yabu-kun, the pres of Sekai made a short speech.
“What? Why do you make a speech just now? Isn’t it for tomorrow?” Hikaru complained.
“Nah…, it’s okay. By tomorrow, Yabu-kun also can’t join us here, right?” Inoo added. “From our side, Tanimura, we also really feel happy to be invited here. We experienced many things we haven’t experienced before. And it’s all thanks to you, guys…. Even this program will end soon I hope we still could be friends and keep in touch.”
That day, we ended the program earlier, beside the program has been actually finished, we also need time to make a report for tomorrow’s presentation.
***
“With this, Sekai’s Gakuen’s Bunkasai is starting!!!”
“YEAAAAH……!!!!!!!”
We finished the presentation right before the Bunkasai start. Yabu didn’t appear in the last presentation because he has to do the speech for the opening ceremony. The students were really happy when the Bunkasai starts. Every classes join in with everything they could. There’s class which presents a maid-café, obake yashiki, wrestling competition, fortune teller, and so on. What interest the most is that the outsider can also join the Bunkasai, the people from neighborhood, students from other schools and so on.
“Here! Banana-choco!” Hikaru gave me one. Chinen and Yuto went somewhere I don’t know. Inoo also disappeared from my eyesight. So I ended up with Hikaru now.
“I think you look extremely happy now. Did something happen?” I asked. And my guess was right. His cheek reddened.
“You know, I was planning that I’ll confess to someone I like tonight.” That’s right, I remember he mentioned it few days ago. “And two minutes ago, the person I like confessed to me first.” WHOAAA…!!! Now he became more and more red like the Hokkaido boiled crab! That thing sure is happened, huh? I mean…, when you want to confess your feeling to someone you love, and suddenly that person confessed first to you…, what a beautiful day it would be….
“That’s great then!” I’m happy for him. “So, what will you do tonight? Seeing the hanabi together?” because he doesn’t need to confess anymore, right?
“That’s…, HI-, MI-, TSU!” WHOAAA! What was that?! Someone who’s in love sure is different, huh?
“This is my last chance, so I’ll do it tonight!”
“Chika! Ganbatte ne! Even though you’ll have many opponents, I’ll support you no matter how!”
“Taihen desu, ne… liking the most popular guy like Takaki….”
“But I really like him…!!!”
I heard those girls’ chat. That’s right. Tonight…, I’m sure he’ll also be confessed to by so many girls. One of them is that girl. Which one will he choose to be his girlfriend I wonder…? Will he be so picky about this matter? Or he’ll just choose them randomly? But he has rejected so many girls before. Doesn’t that mean… he already has someone he likes, and he also plans to confess to her tonight?
Hey! Why do I have to think about it anyway? It surely has nothing to do with me!
What really matter to me right now is that by not more than 10 minutes more, after the hanabi ends, I’ll back to my normal life. Without thinking about him anymore, without worrying him anymore, without wondering what he does anymore….
DAMN! Why do I…, even now….?!
“Shooo…!” Ah, it starts. The hanabi.
“Yeay!!!”
“Cool!!!”
Everyone’s attention was on the hanabi that sparkled beautifully on the night sky. After this, or I think now, he must be confessed to by those girls. I think I’ll go first to the place where Inoo’s car parked. Sayonara, Takaki Yuya….
“Where are you going?” someone suddenly pulled my left wrist and grabbed it tight.
“Takaki… Yuya…?”
“Yeah, that’s me. I said, where are you going?” his hand’s still holding mine. He’s sweating. His shoulders were moving up and down. Did he just run from something?
“Did you run?” I asked him back.
“Arioka Daiki! Could you at least answer my question cause I asked you first!” he seemed mad.
“Of course I’ll go home. I mean…, to the Tanimura.” He stood still. “Sorry for the trouble I made….”
“Before you go, I want to tell you something.” Then I’ll wait for him to tell me the thing.
“And this is the last hanabi for this Bunkasai! Here it goes!”
“I like you.”
“Shuuu….”
“YEAAAH…!!!”
“WOW! THIS ONE IS THE BIGGEST!”
Those sound of people cheering for the last firework. With the lights from the last and the biggest hanabi, I saw Takaki’s closed eyes right before mine. He placed his lips on my lips with such a position so I could still take a breath, but actually I just couldn’t breathe normally because of shock.
“Why did you stop breathing?”
“Because you kissed me.”
“Do you always stop breathing when someone kissed you?”
“How would I know? This is my first!”
“Then allow me add the count of it….”
***
Meanwhile those girls….
“Did you see Takaki-kun?”
“Where is he?!”
“I didn’t see him anywhere…!”
*Omake
“So, what’s your answer?” I fell in to his deep embrace.
“What about the girls?” I remembered those girls who wanted to confess their feeling towards Takaki.
“What girls? Who do you mean?” Chikai! His face was too close.
“No, just forget it…,” I made my head a little further from his.
“What is it?” he kept questioning me.
“Nothing.”
“If you don’t say it, I’ll kiss you!”
“….”
“Ah…, sorry… I was just… kidding. I went a little overboard. You know….”
“Then I won’t say it”
