Lots of people essay about their characters. I started writing about Maraich, based off of some of the other ones and then continued it.
Personal tastes: Maraich was raised to be an assassin, but the truth is he'd rather stay at home and cook and clean. He doesn't seem to have any deep regret about being an assassin; he probably got over that years ago. However, he likes to act more like a housewife.
Strength/Abilities: Despite having a big mouth, Maraich is more like a "typical human" as far as abilities. He has no magic or special weapons. He's trained in all forms of martial arts and he'll pick up and use whatever weapons might be lying around.
In Patalliro, characters don't have typical "abilities" like "fire magic" or "able to fly". The abilities are more like "can instantly disguise himself". Maraich's only known special ability to date is that he was able to get pregnant even though he's male. That generally isn't very useful in battle.
As an assassin he tries to trick his opponents to gain an advantage. This can mean detailed preparations before meeting an enemy or things he'll do during a fight. He's vaguely aware that a lot of people on the community have special powers, so he's quite likely to be prepared long before he meets an opponent.
In fights you can picture him to be like "Chun-li" of Street Fighter. High kicks, flips and very fast.
Love: Maraich has a romantic view of love. He believes meeting a handsome prince and riding off into the sunset to live happily ever after.
Unfortunately, his real love life his nothing like that. Every relationship he's had began with him being raped. He has highly disfunctional relationships full of cheating and lying; and yet he'll go back over and over. Since his first relationship began when he was 9 it's quite likely he doesn't have any role model or experience on how to maintain a stable relationship.
He's extremely jealous. He'll throw things, scream, yell, snoop and get angry and leave when he catches his boyfriend cheating.
Due to Bancoran-issues, DDD Maraich has spent a long time being in the "broken up" stage of his relationship. Typically he fights with Bancoran, runs over to Patalliro's place for awhile, and makes up with Bancoran until the next time he's cheated on.
As such, Maraich is not used to being in a healthy relationship. If he had a good relationship, it wouldn't take long before he thought that something had to be wrong and he just hadn't found it yet.
What Maraich is open for: Most anything. Just ask and I'll tell you.
Talk about whatever you want around Maraich; he'll just respond ICly (getting mad is IC for him anyway). And it'd probably be hard to do anything worse to him than what's happened in canon.
I'm open for events and such.
Anything you might want your character to do with/to Maraich is fine. Just message me and we'll talk about it.
Relationships: Because Maraich is in a broken-up stage, he's slightly more open to relationships. He won't normally be after one, though. If he thinks your character is cute, or flirts, that doesn't necessarily mean he wants to date them. He's lonely and wants to have a little attention. He also does it sometimes to make the other person feel good.
Maim/Murder/Death: No death, but if you want to hurt Maraich somehow talk to me.
Maraich also has no qualms about hurting other people. He's not likely to go after someone weak or innocent.
Maraich has killed many people during his life. He won't have a mental breakdown over hurting someone.
Physical contact: If your character wants to try and do something further than a hug, you should ask first. Otherwise Maraich will just react ICly to any sudden hugging or kissing.
On the other hand, Maraich has a very forceful personality. He'll grab, pull, push, wrestle, hug and make all sorts of physical contact with other characters. He's often found doing this with more emo-characters like Ari; trying to force them to have a good time.
Law and Order: Maraich would be the "chaotic good" of D&D. He's basically good. He doesn't want to hurt people, especially for no reason. He'll fight to help people.
He also has little regard for the law in general. Even after he's long left the International Diamond Syndicate, he "kidnaps" someone (to give them a night out on the town) and also invades someone's residence to search through their things.
He typically doesn't do things like that for no reason, but he doesn't always ask, either. And he doesn't care if someone is yelling at him to get out of their house.
Motivation: Motivations are probably one of the hardest things about Maraich. When he joins the good guys he doesn't take the typical path of getting revenge on all the bad guys that have done him wrong. On the contrary; he's a little reluctant to turn Count Du Larken in even after he's been left behind. He also never seeks out some of the other people from his past.
The main reason behind Maraich's goals, as far as I can see, is actually the people he's around. He usually gets caught up in their plots or affairs; whether he's working as a bodyguard for Patalliro or taking over Bancoran's job for awhile.
Sometimes a new party will get involved in his life suddenly; and a lot of times he'll have a night out on the town with them and then go back to his normal life.
Despite how much he talks, I don't paint him as incredibly open. That's because, even in the series, when he runs into someone from his past he doesn't say anything about it. If he wasn't pressured to, he probably would have never said anything. This probably depends on what exactly happened, too.
Maraich is betrayed a lot in his life, so the way I'm going to play him is with trust issues. He does, however, move on to new people, even if he doesn't trust them.
Bonding with Maraich probably isn't as easy as it seems. He'll get along with a lot of people, but the people he gets attached to seem rather spontaneous and sometimes completely unexpected. If he really likes someone, he's almost stalker-like. He'll also willingly sacrifice his life for them.
Anger: Because it's such a big part of Maraich's personality. Just like Maraich has idealistic views of love, sometimes he gets angry on principle.
He's over the fact that his parents died. If someone is being a jerk about it, though, he'll get angry on principle.
Maraich almost has a fake anger and a real anger. Most the time he can snap right out of it and talk normally or even laugh with the same person he was just screaming at.
On the other hand, if he's really angry he won't let go so easily. It's really dependent on what happened. He's stayed angry at someone for not dying when he tried to kill them (blaming them for his problems), and also stayed angry when he felt like he was stood up for a date. Depending on what happens he might get over it or he might not.
Maraich has no problem with physical pain, but emotional pain can wreak havoc on him.
Maraich's universe is strange but it can almost be painfully realistic. Some people have said that Maraich needs to stop getting raped. It's kind of funny in one way, but if you think about it seriously it's realistic. A lot of times one of the reasons given for women not fighting is because if they get caught, they'll probably be raped. Maraich is a beautiful man on a world where beautiful men are adored.
It would be like sending a supermodel out to fight and then expecting nothing to happen if the other side captured her.
My favorite part about Maraich, though, is that he never let his entire life revolve around that. Most characters that have been raped go into super-emo mode and shut down. He's not happy about it by any means, but he can move on.
Although it's a comedy, Patalliro sometimes takes on serious issues. For how absurd some of the stories are, a lot of them actually make sense if you tweaked them a bit into a real life situation (selling off children to pay off debts, the bad guys are generally motivated by money rather than the usual "I'm going to rule the world", family politics and dealing with things like miscarraiges, loneliness and death).
I honestly think some of the characters are more realistic than other shows or games I see.
For example, I love Sephiroth from FFVII, but I never quite got what he was going to do after he destroyed the world. It's so much easier to understand Larken. They had a monopoly on diamonds that was making them rich, so they wanted to kill someone who threatened their monopoly. It wasn't a universal control of the world, or trying to kill off everyone or a lot of other things typical villains are hellbent on doing for some reason.
Same with Maraich's relationships. There aren't many relationships in anime or manga that deal with a cheating boyfriend, or drinking problems. They also don't often deal with the people who keep going back into abusive relationships. For the amount of people who do this in real life, there's a huge lack of these highly dysfunctional relationships in shows.
In other words, for all its zaniness I think the characters react in realistic ways. If you're an extremely beautiful person and you get captured by your enemies, you're probably going to be sexually assaulted. If you were supposed to go out on a date and the other person says they have work to do at the last minute, a lot of people would be pissed off. A lot of girls do go back to the man who promises he'll "never do it again". Businesses do break the law in order to try and earn money. When boiled down to the concepts, they make perfect sense.
Throw in the impossible abilities and circumstances and you have Patalliro.
