Ah, the things that one thinks up on long lonely drives between Seattle and Portland. That was quick. I did a search on "Things can always get worse" wondering if it was actually an Eastern European saying or just humor that I read someplace saying that, and this post was the third entry in the Google search. It had been posted for maybe 20 minutes.

Like. Extra-like the first part, but then, I have read too much, and therefore the thing with the state of the world at large being a backdrop to the guy's personal angst is very compelling.

I am sure that some nation, somewhere in Eastern Europe has at least as bleak a saying. At least a dozen of said at-least-as-bleak sayings. It is not the least dour part of the world. And, so you know, they still herd cows down the highways through middle-sized towns in Romania, lines of cars notwithstanding (at least as of last August). They have not had the easiest time out there.
