that's sooo cool!! I love records! I've got a pile of them too, and I have a pretty good turntable but one of the idiot members of my family broke the needle and I haven't been able to find one to replace it.

Tom waits huh? I haven't heard a lot of his stuff but i've been interested in getting into him, anything by him you really recomend?

i would recommend anything by waits. he's had several incarnations though so it's hard to suggest just one. in his first phase(early-mid 70's) he was a lounge lizard type. from there i would suggest 'heart of saturday night'. he started getting a little more off the wall in the late 70's and 'heartattackandvine' is my pick. more strange yet in the 80's, all classic albums, but 'rain dogs' or 'swordfishtrombones' would be good places to start. he went insane after that with 'bone machine'. some hate it, i love it. since then they are all pretty good, but this new one 'real gone' is the best. still pretty off the wall stuff.

he's not for everyone, but if you're open to crazy shit, with unlikely instruments and a rough voice, he just might be for you.
