I was saddened to see this little quote in Faith News in The Times today;

One in every ten voters in America believes Barack Obama to be a Muslim, a survey has revealed. White evangelical Protestants and Americans from the Southern, mid-Western and rural states are the most likely to hold this view, according to the poll commissioned by the Pew ( Read more... )

In all honesty, I really don't think it's the color of his skin that makes people think he's a Muslim, it's his name. I mean, Barack Hussein Obama. The middle name if nothing else would be what makes people think that and the Christian Right points that out at every chance they get, which would certainly influence a lot of people. Most black people in this country are very Christian, so I really wouldn't think it's a race thing, but that's just me.

Oh, I absolutely agree that it isn't right. And I'm surprised that this is still a misconception because he has caught a lot of flack because his former pastor is batshit crazy and likes to run his mouth and say horrible things. Obviously if he has a pastor, he's not a Muslim. It just shows how scared the Christian right are of him because they will obviously do anything to discredit him, but the people who are listening to them probably wouldn't have voted for him anyway...

So the focus has kind of shifted to "Ok well he might be a Christian but..." when really, his religion should have fuck all to do with it.

That's true. Some people are too stuck in their ways - including myself, so I can hardly talk!

Surely it's common sense to check schedule times? I never just assume a time for something - stuff gets moved around all the time.

Sadly, people make assumptions based on perceptions but that doesn't mean humanity isn't cute and cuddly and all giggly and adorable ... *is thinking of his niece and his nephew on the way* Next month ... Mwahahaha if he's lucky he'll look like his cute uncle Chuy *blushes*

I love Michelle Branch ... I should upload my cds to this comp.

Don't lose faith in humanity Ems ... we work better as individuals than as groups ... *winks* especially if you're Northern Mexican LOL

It's like the saying; Not everyone who's Conservative is stupid, but most stupid people tend to be Conservative. I've definitely found that from experience.

That's true ... LOL

I'd never judge a whole group of people like that ... considering most of my family are conservative ... *facepalm*

But you gotta love 'em ... don't you?

So are my family, but I have no problem with thinking they're stupid. I mean, my parents read The Daily Mail *headdesk*

Aye, unconditionally.
