every few months i find myself wishing that i had shiny-black, straight hair. i would have fun activities with that: tossing my hair around lots, wearing fancy, jewel-encrusted barrettes, sporting bangs and tucking my hair behind my ears. i would do all of these things and more ( Read more... )

I cut, colour and style my hair with a flat iron. It's not that I don't appreciate what I've got, but if i can make something that feels even more fun, why the hell not? The colours I choose are otherworldy - burgundy and purple and hot pink and mandarin orange - if I'm gonna colour, I'm gonna COLOUR. I don't want to try and look 'natural' from the process.

That said, there are days where I don't even bother and just let it mess all up and kink and curl, and that's all good too.

I think before I chop all this off I'll likely try dreads again. My hair loves to tangle.

That's cool. I respect that.

My point is that I HAVE tried to flat iron my hair and it ends of looking stiff and becomes even more dried out. My hair responds really well to curling and really badly to straightening.

For me, it's all about what it looks like when it's moving. Does it shine and flex? My hair can't do any of that when I straighten it.

It's also possible that I'm just beauty retarded. I'm just not that good at the beautification process.

Heh... I think it's all about finding what works for you, both in what you like and what you can manage. Sometimes I just don't wanna deal and my hair is a rat's nest like it is right now - after the week at the beach it's all sun bleached and need some fresh colour. Col is gonna help me out with that tomorrow.

It's work, but for my hair to shine and flex, it has to be styled. I guess we have the opposites in terms of our hair!
