Crazy Brits

No seriously. Apparently, at least according to the BBC, the U. K. will be chock full of dementia by 2051.

Currently 700,000 - or one person in every 88 in the UK - has dementia, incurring a yearly cost of £17bn.

By 2051 the figure will be 1,735,087 - an increase of 154% from now -, which will mean dementia will affect the lives of around one in ( Read more... )

I wonder if some effort couldn't be made on the boards to organize some carpooling, if anyone is driving a larger vehicle that has extra space...

I do usually carpool with people coming from NY, or even trying to share rides with people further up in RI, but it's still wears you down. After a full weekend at a boffer LARP it is really rough to go on a five hour trip back home and be ready for work on Monday.

Be well.

Yeah it's quite a trek. It makes me wonder if I can keep playing so many games. Thankfully Radiant will be ending soon...but even juggling Aralis and Endgame may be too much.

Be well.

Those dementia numbers are frightening. People close to me have had to take care of someone with dementia and its almost a full time job.

I can't imagine 1 in 3 people having to deal with it!

Neuro is really the biggest black box in medicine, understandably, so though we are able to keep people alive and healthy much longer than we once could, by treating their hearts, lungs, kidneys, etc., well, we can't really do much of anything for their brains. According to my textbooks (Brunner's & Suddharth Medsurg Nursing) 3-11% of community-residing residents over 65 and 20-50% over 85 have dementia, and that's not accounting for the fact that the majority of demented patients are insitutionalized. I remember when I was born, my life expectancy was around 67-70. Now that's considered early-middle old age.

So yeah, as we keep ourselves undead longer and longer, we are going to gain more and more mental resists.

-Ethan, just coming off of his ICU rotation. You would not believe the number of tubes in people. Seriously. Like more than 20 sometimes. It's like fricking Lain in there.

A possible option for you would be to just leave all your stuff for Aralis, Radiant and Endgame at my house and just take the train. I attend all three games; though I'm not sure if Endgame will take NPCs under 18 yet. I need to look into that.

Anyway, the train station is close enough to my house (N. Kingston) that I wouldn't mind picking you up.

Somehow, I thought there were all sorts of insurance-related reasons for why most Accelerant games wouldn't take people under 18. At the same time, I don't know how that changes if said minor's legal guardian was present...

Isles, Radiant and Valiant all allow (indeed have) NPCs who are 16. Dave has already approved Shane to PC Aralis. Madrigal does not allow PCs or NPCs under 18. The topic has not come up for Endgame.

With the disclaimer that I'm not staff, I would be very very surprised if they would do so.
