Cars, Sickness, and Teslas

Feb 23, 2009 16:40

On Saturday bitsyboo and I went to test drive some cars. We first went to a Toyota dealer and test drove the Scion and Corolla. Between the two we generally preferred the Corolla. We intend to go back to test drive the Camry. We then went to a Honda dealer and test drove the Civic. We also intend to test drive the Accord.

Do any of you have opinions on those four cars? Corolla vs. Camry vs. Civic vs. Accord?

Also the Toyota dealers were much more on the ball compared to the Honda people. Our Toyota sales guy was chill, competent, and knowledgable and his supervisor was equally gracious. The Honda sales guy was a bit of a dud and clearly had other things on his mind (which is fine, but if he has some people coming in to pick up a car give us to another salesperson?). The supervisor also made some stupid joke about trunk space to sleep in if bitsyboo is ever mad at me or something equally dumb? I don't know if I got the exact wording because I was kind of shocked that he'd say something like that to a potential customer he's just met.

I don't know how or why, but later on Saturday I came down with a serious fever and chills. I mean it was painful to literally stand up or move around. Unfortunately I had to go back to the school and help set up the main gym for the League Fencing Tournament happening on Sunday. This meant moving tables around, running a cord round the fencing area, taping down the marks for all the strips, etc. It was rough but manageable.

What really pushed me into the mindset of "this is hell" was the next day. The sickness had not improved in the morning, but this was the final tournament of the season for the upper school and for our seniors. I was up fairly early and somehow managed to move my aching self, after taking plenty of pain killers, out the door to be there by 8:00 a. m. The real killer was that one of the directors did not show up. This meant that I had to step in to direct...because you know none of the other extra coaches from the other schools were capable of doing that? Ugh. This meant that I had to be not only mentally focused on the actions taking place, but also move up and down the strip to follow the movements of the fencers while in numbing pain. This is coupled with dealing with coaches yelling at me about calls that don't go their way and also making sure the competition was run smoothly. It was also annoying that I could barely coach/help our fencers while they were fencing.

The competition did go well, though it was annoying that our League Champions Boys Foil squad came in 2nd. Our Epee, who came in 2nd in the League took first place though. Girls Foil did not have a great season and ended up around 4th or 5th with the same result at the tournament. I was DEAD after this...and as a result did not make it in to work today...which is bad because I have two more competitions to go for the Middle School. Blah. I must be getting old or something. Maybe I have Lyme disease? I don't know. It's really weird.

This video of the Dr. Who theme played with Tesla coilsis stolen from siriel. At first I thought there were musical effects synced up to the blasts rather than the blasts being the source of the music, but after watching the full video and watching this one it looks authentic to me.

Oh and it sounds like Madrigal was a good time for people? Wish I could see the War Golem and Winter Lord costumes. They sound really cool. It's been so long since I LARPed...but the season is just around the corner. Ugh I can't even think about doing that right now.

Be well.
