I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Partly because today is a major anniversary in my life - it's been five years to the day since Gryffin's adoption was finalized - and partly because of some other things that are going on right now. Perhaps it's because I was adopted myself and am also an adoptive mommy, but I have a very Whedonesque view ( Read more... )

I meant to use this icon too. Adam fits though. There's always room for Adam!

Bless. I've got a wonderful sister who is mine by virtue of blood relations and whom I love dearly and would die for and I have a wonderful sister whom I was lucky enough to meet and who has been a dear and sweet source of support and love for years now. Family truly is who you choose.

Happy Adoption Day! :)

This post is amazing. I think about this stuff all the time; the little choices that land us where we want to be and where we are happy.

You've captured it all so beautifully in this thought process here. Especially the stuff about motherhood. Things were bad with my son's dad before he came along. When he did everything was easier because I really love my son, he's not just my whole family, he's my whole world and I'd chose him over everyone else, every single time.

Lovely stories, and so true. The best stories are the ones that are real, that couldn't be made up.

I know it's probably overused, but I still love the definition they give in 'Lilo & Stitch' - "Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten."
