I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Partly because today is a major anniversary in my life - it's been five years to the day since Gryffin's adoption was finalized - and partly because of some other things that are going on right now. You've captured it all so beautifully in this thought process here. Especially the stuff about motherhood. Things were bad with my son's dad before he came along. When he did everything was easier because I really love my son, he's not just my whole family, he's my whole world and I'd chose him over everyone else, every single time.

I know it's probably overused, but I still love the definition they give in 'Lilo & Stitch' - "Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten."
