Either they think that you think they're cool, or else they feel sorry for you for not understanding that their way is the cool way. Reminds me of an old pop/rock song that I forget the name of, but the chorus went "I don't care, what you do... I wouldn't wanna be like you"

Or they feel threatened because I don't think they're cool and I'm always saying I'm busy when I get invited to their stupid parties so they have to try to put me down to make themselves feel better.

i think they pretend to be cool in order to avoid facing the fact that there's probably a REASON someone as cool as you doesn't want to hang out with them unless she's paid to.
