I've almost finished this one, so I know how long it will be, but i have no idea how many chapters there will be, as I haven't figured out, where I"m going to put the END OF THIS CHAPTER lines. I usually take approx 3 Word-pages for a chapter, but I might take more or less pages this time. Don't know yet. Anyhow.... ON to the story.....

Coffee for one. Slice of bread for one. Orange juice for one. Apple for one… Scotty looks at his breakfast and sighs. He should be used to it by now, it’s been nearly 4 months, but the table still looks frighteningly empty, without Kevin’s coffee, Kevin’s breakfast and Kevin himself there.
He opens the news-paper, but the headlines, about a court-case against a man who killed his wife and child, makes Scotty put aside the newspaper. It reminds him that Kevin is a lawyer and he doesn’t want to think about Kevin, and yet, all he has to do is look at the empty stool at the other side of the table, to know it’s no use. Kevin is always on his mind.
That is where he used to sit, where they’d talk about their day, if they had the chance to. Again, Scotty wonders if telling Kevin the truth had been the best thing to do. He tells himself it should have been, because he didn’t want to continue the lie, but, at the same time, he believes that maybe he should have better kept his mouth shut.
He had paid the price. Everything had completely spun out of control. The night Kevin found out about Marcus, Kevin had left him, angry and hurt. Then the Walkers had started to meddle and had pushed Scotty and Kevin into getting back together, which, Scotty realizes by now, they shouldn’t have done.
Kevin had felt completely with his back against the wall and he had started to fight back. He argued with Saul, walked out on Nora, slammed the door of Kitty’s house as he left and the discussion between Sarah and Kevin had escalated to the point that Luc had gently, but insistently asked Kevin to leave and cool off.
By then, Scotty had become worried sick. Kevin wouldn’t talk to him, call him, listen to him. Nothing. Scotty had started to believe that this was the end of their marriage. But life had gone on and the day after Kevin had fought with his family, Scotty had needed to get supplies from the market and Saul had not been available to do it.
Hoping it would distract him Scotty had left, but when he came back two hours later, he immediately knew that Kevin had been here. Kevin’s office was unlocked, but seemed untouched. Dreading what was to come, Scotty went up the stairs to their apartment and found that Kevin’s clothes were gone.
It was obvious that he went through some paperwork, but Scotty couldn’t say what was missing. And there had been a letter on the table:
“Scotty, Need ‘time out’. Can’t handle this anymore. Asked Reed to take over my cases. Please, let him in to my office when he comes over. Don’t look for me. I won’t even let my family know where I am. I’m too tired to fight any longer. Love you . Kevin”.
It had made sense at the time and no one, including Scotty, had expected Kevin to simply vanish for real, but he had. He just vanished into thin air.
At first, Scotty had waited, expecting at every moment that Kevin call him, talk to him, yell at him, but he never called Scotty personally. All the news Scotty gets about Kevin is second-hand info, because Kevin calls Justin once a week, at various times, to let everyone know not to worry about him and that he’s still alive.
When he does, all he wishes to say is that he’s alright. When Justin presses the matter, asking where he is, if he’s coming home, if could please talk to Scotty, Kevin hangs up and switches off his phone and he’s out of reach again.
Everyone had tried to call him. Nora, Justin, Sarah, even Luc had made an attempt, hoping that ‘as an outsider’ Kevin would take his call, but Kevin never returned any of the calls. The only one that he seeks a minimum of contact with is Justin.
And at first the Walkers had been there to support Scotty. At first, Nora had regularly dropped in with something home-cooked, to make sure that he ‘eats properly’, but nowadays he hardly ever sees her. He understands that her life goes on too. She has other kids and grandchildren to worry about.
Saul and Scotty still work together. Saul had explained to Scotty that he was very disappointed by Scotty’s cheating, but after that one time, Saul never talked about it again. But, these days, Saul is dating a man, Jonathan, and he’s so happy, that Scotty doesn’t want to interfere.
When it comes to Kitty and Sarah, Scotty runs into a wall of silence from Kitty, Sarah and also Luc, and, once, when he had asked Paige about Kevin, she had nearly begged him not to ask her, because she didn’t want to get in trouble with her mom. So, Scotty knows that Kevin’s sisters quietly blame him for the destruction of their marriage.
Tommy had been furious with Scotty, when he found out about the cheating, because Kitty called him to ask if Kevin was with him, but Tommy was in Seattle and never called Scotty anyway.
The only one who acts ‘normal’ around him is Justin and they often talk about Kevin and Rebecca and every time Justin reminds Scotty, that Kevin and he are still married, that Kevin doesn’t seem to have taken legal steps to separate. And that this should be considered a good sign, but Scotty gave up hope a long time ago.
Sometimes, when he’s in a bad mood, Scotty suspects that the Walkers have formed a united front, where no one speaks to him about Kevin, to protect Kevin, or to perhaps even Scotty himself. But then he changes his mind and he knows it’s not true. He can see the lines of worry that have been added to Nora’s face. She’s not lying. She has no idea where Kevin is and it scares her more than she lets on.

It’s nearly lunch-time and Scotty looks around. A part of him doesn’t want to go home, because it means having lunch alone in an empty house. A part of him can’t wait to get home, because somehow having lunch here, on his own, doesn’t seem like much of an alternative.
He turns around and walks into someone. A plastic bag falls to the ground, a few papers take a little more time to fall and Scotty is already halfway his heart-felt apology when he sees who it is, he bumped into.
“Jason!” His reaction is a surprised one and it would seem he’s not the only one take off-guard.
“Scotty…” Jason picks the bag off the floor. “It’s okay, it’s unbreakable….”
“… Papers…”
“No worries there either. It wasn’t important and I think I have all the pages again…”
“I’m sorry.” Scotty says again.
They stand opposite each other for a few seconds. It’s been years since they last saw each other and it feels awkward.
“It’s been nice seeing you again.” Jason says with a polite nod and he turns around to walk away.
Scotty opens his mouth to call him back, to talk to him about Kevin. if anyone might know how much Scotty misses Kevin, it might be Jason…. But Scotty closes his mouth again, not knowing what to say. Jason hasn’t been a part of Kevin’s life for too long. It’s none of Jason’s business anyway. Jason disappears into the crowd and Scotty is alone again.
